Gucci Galaxy Python

gucci_galaxy_chain.jpgI don't think I've ever loved Gucci as much as this, EVER! Not even during the heydays of Tom Ford. And trust me, I bought plenty of Gucci bags back in the day and was pretty damn proud of them. This divine and pristine python on a gorgeous classic shape - major LUST!! Not sure it is a must at $3500 but that has nothing to do with its worth (it's a personal budgetary matter!). If you can, do it! I haven't even gone into the details that make this a super spectacular special piece. There is a small chain that hangs on the bottom, which is all it takes to convey refined edgy chic. And the handle looks like chain but it is interlocking braided leather. You need fine details like that for an investment piece, which this is without question. This might get pushed up to the top of my list for Fall purchases, but that means I have to let some other things go. But what a lovely decision that is to have to make =) At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $3500.

DVF Belle Clutch

Loving this adorable pleated clutch toughened up with multi sized gold studs!  It's very Studio 54, I can totally picture DVF rockin' it with a slinky little dress.  The pleated leather is squishy and soft and the sprinkling of round studs is way more feminine and timeless than its square counterpart.  I never thought I'd be into gold hardware again, the '80s was a distant memory but now it's back in full force so I'm going to jump right back in without missing a beat.  What about you, how do you feel about gold hardware?

By the way, don't let the photos deceive you, it is a large clutch at 15" wide with a 16" optional shoulder strap. Diane von Furstenberg Belle Clutch with Studs $595 here

Donna Karan Gotham collection in Organic Lambskin

I've been wearing Donna Karan clothes since college but have never had the itch for her bags... until I saw the small Gotham tote today. I am speechless (in a good way) over the design of this super kick ass bag. Ever the pragmatist, Donna Karan finds the perfect balance between trendy style and practical function and executes it flawlessly. The punk rock zippers are on trend and totally make the bag but what I really love about it is the multi compartments (3 main to be exact) and the many pockets to stash my goods. The outer side pockets are large enough for an iPhone and Kindle, so practical! Can not tell you how many times I get excited over outer pockets only to find they fit nothing but a postage stamp. But this is not the best part about the Gotham, the collection (there is a larger Gotham tote @ 14"x15" and clutch) is made of organic crinkled lambskin! This eco-friendly leather uses natural skins (by products) that starts at a chemical free farm and dyed by a tannery that is ISO 14000 certified using only vegetable tannins. Hello! Eco chic has never looked so hot! This is a major winner in my book. The one I'm getting is in espresso, a rich dark coffee distressed shade that almost looks black. Sublime! Small Gotham tote-- 14"W x 11"L (7" drop on shoulder straps) $1,495 at Donna Karan boutiques call 212-861-1001.

The Gotham convertible clutch bag also caught my eye. It has the same punk rockin' zippered style with a removable long body chain. The perfect complement for your hot date nights. Zippered interior to ensure nothing falls out. 11"W x 5"L, $995. (Jump for more photos!)

Givenchy Couture Padded Clutch

Yes, I love Givenchy and that's right, I MUST have this clutch. This quilted pattern was done on the Sacca but on such a giant bag it was too much. On a clutch however, it is a whole new thing and totally fabulous. Love love love. And not just for it's beauty but look at how it opens up! There is a magical compartment that will hold as much as a regular bag (it's 10" wide). The zipper pocket can hold what you normally put in a tiny clutch, everything else is a bonus - extra makeup, snacks, your big wallet, whatever you want. You can totally rock out this look (yes, it can be done without studs!) or be lady-like in a LBD. At Barneys New York for $950.

Derek Lam Henrietta Tote in Python and Suede

Snob alert! I was told this bag was made in limited editions (only 4-5 will be available!) Get your name on list now-- I believe all are spoken for but if you want one they will try to order more from Italy but no promises!!!
dlamhenrietta2.jpg

I am in love with the Henrietta tote from Derek Lam in lush suede and supple python and think it may be the one for me this season (I just read that the economic crisis is actually driving women to buy luxury bags!  Now I have a legitimate defense when my hubby complains about my bag habit.  "Honey, don't stress me out with talk of bad economy, I'll have to buy another bag!").  This gorgeous tote is as luxurious as a bag can get.  If you have ever owned an exotic from Derek you know that he uses top quality skins with meticulous stitching and workmanship-- look how the python blends seamlessly with the suede, it's as if they were always one.  The Henrietta tote is a timeless style with Derek Lam's signature edginess-- at once soft and tough, framed by minimal hardware.  The front pocket with functional side flap is another Derek Lam signature as is the tassle that lightens up the bag-- it's saying, take me to work if you must but don't forget cocktail hour!

Derek's Fall 09 bags are generating lots of attention-- every time I open a magazine I see one dangling off the shoulder of a young starlet (they seem to be staring back at me and taunting me with "look what I have and you don't").  Well I'm gonna get this before anyone, I've got my name on the first one that comes through the door at the Derek Lam boutique!  So, take that girls!

Call Wayne at 212-966-1616 or email him about this to die for bag (around 14" wide).  Oh, and do you want to know how much it is?  A mere $1,750.  For a beautifully made python and suede bag!  Total bargain, I know.  Hurry and call Wayne before it sells out and ends up on Kate Moss' arm.  (Don't forget to help me choose my birthday dress from Derek Lam!)

Classic Snob: YSL Patent Leather Hobo

There is a lot to be said for a simple classic hobo style bag (updated in glossy vernis soft patent leather) and no one does it better than YSL! When you want a bag that lasts through time and is current and relevant no matter the season, go to YSL. Do I sound like a broken record? I just love the brand, they rarely miss and when they do, it's forgiven almost immediately. I love this hobo shape, similar to its Mombasa but with a simple handle and chic minimal hardware. 14"x14" is easy to use daily and to travel with. The YSL Patent Hoboicon is reasonably priced at $1,195 and I know you'll use it often so your cost per wear will be very low with this shiny baby!

Marni Zip Frame

marni_frame_W09.jpg

When I heard the Marni designers jumped ship, I thought it would be the end of one of my most favorite bag lines. But apparently I had nothing to worry about. OK, last season sucked but this looks promising. It is a wool/cotton blend fabric frame with the signature leather straps. The straps attach toward the bottom of the bag, as you can see, so the outer zipper pocket is accessible even though it looks like it would be impossible to get to. Still, not the easiest thing but I do like the look of the straps going all the way down the bag instead of the typical, stitched at the top seam. The double clasp for the frame opening is another hurdle for me, it requires two hands or a bit of juggling to operate but like I said, this shows promise for what's to come, not that I'm running out to buy this, in case I'm sounding wishy washy. It has the usual natural cotton lining which makes the bag mostly fabric and thus the price extremely pleasing. At Marni for $715.

Tod's D-Styling Bauletto

Before everyone drones on about how this is sooo boring, consider that it is a Tod's and they are known for the subtle and classic appeal. OK, fine, it is boring. But an immaculately made bag that is timeless and full of function definitely has its merits. And for a lot of women, that what they want, a bag that lasts forever and goes with everything. Well, this surely will and does. I saw this bag at Fall Preview and I instantly fell in love for the color. It is a warm gray, which they are calling Tan, but it is definitely more ashy than fleshy. And the simplicity is kind of mesmerizing, like a Valextra, looking at it puts you in a trance. It is so soothing and nice. Nothing wrong with a bag I'll use well into grandmotherhood. At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $1445. Or call my good friend Carla at the Beverly Hills store at 310.285.0591.

DVF Marisa Draped Wrap Hobo

dvf_marisahobo.jpg.png

I always get the credit for looking good when wearing DVF. People don't necessarily say, "Nice dress", they say, "You look great", which is a high compliment to DVF, she just makes you look like you have it all going on and the focus is really on you. I think that is her intention. And that's how this hobo is. You look like you know what you're doing effortlessly but it isn't a flashy bag that is screaming, "Look at me!!". There is a sprinkle of studs but very sparingly and the strap has these fold over tab details that are so unique. The bag is of course incredibly functional, being a true DVF, like the two zipper pocket on the sides to get to your stuff. At Neiman Marcus for $595.
