UPDATE: Congratulations to our winners, Ellen Ngai from NYC got the 24 Hr and Matt Fornito of Fayetteville, GA the Midday Midnight (for his girlfriend, lucky girl!).

This is the moment you've been waiting for! It has taken some work on our part but we finally did it, we have secured not only one but TWO Gerard Darel bags to give away! Woo hoo! The company is notorious for their anti-giveaway policies but we found a way around it thanks to LuxCouture, who is sponsoring. LUXCOUTURE is now carrying Gerard Darel and if you are wondering why their stock is so limited, it is because they are flying off the virtual shelves. That's even more reason for us to be thankful that they are putting 2 aside for this month's giveaway.

We will have TWO WINNERS. The first will receive the 24 Hr in black, worth $495. How can you go wrong with a no-brainer everyday bag like this? The second winner will receive the Midday Midnight Hobo in purple worth $650. This is the latest GD craze and is seen on just about every celebrity around the globe. And in purple, oh swoon!! No need for words, this bag is HOT!

To win, you know the drill, fill out the entry form on our newsletter sign up page. You will receive our weekly updates as well as be entered to win, all in one fell swoop. If you already receive our newsletters, you will still need to fill out the form to be entered in this giveaway. Contest ends on June 30th at 11:59pm EST. One entry per person please and US residents only. We will select 2 winners via a random computer drawing on July 1st. Good luck!

A big huge THANKS to Sari of LuxCouture for her continued support of Bag Snob.

R & Y Augousti Ostrich Invite Clutch

The perfect color for the season and the price is right for an exotic. Need I say more? Everyone is looking for a white clutch for the summer but who wants to plunk down a grand or more for something you need a few times over the course of 3 months? But this very lovely clutch, simple with dark wood detail, can actually make an annual appearance for years to come. And it is ostrich! It doesn't have the quill bumps all over, thus the nice price, but I like that the composition of texture and non-texture is made into a feature. Each one will be slightly different but the placement is specific, not random so each will be uniquely yours. The character, the ease, the cool, the versatility and a slight edge - all for $395 at Barneys New York. Might go on sale but you better act fast (or at least beat me to it!!).

Mary Norton Chiffon Rose Clutch

People have been asking about summer wedding bags and some crystal beaded miniaudiere easily comes to mind. But how about not so obvious, like this Rose Chiffon from Mary Norton? Perfect for the bride, although I don't know where she would be carrying this, not down the aisle, right? For my wedding, I had a giant tote bag full of things that I thought I might need that one of my brides maids had to carry around (and ended up sitting under a table all night). I was thinking this is more for a guest, with a summery dress. It kind of looks like a Chanel, although Chanel is a camellia and this is a rose, but hey, I'm no botanist. At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $995.

Jewel of a Bag: Kara Ross Fall/Winter 2009

Nox_Purple Python_1.jpgNox_Taupe Python_1.jpg Nola Small_Taupe Leather with Taupe Python_2.jpg
Why choose between a beautiful piece of jewelry or a gorgeous bag when you can have both on a single fabulous accessory that does not cost an arm and leg?!?!  Kara Ross designs the most exquisitely crafted and affordable jewel bags I have ever seen. Last season I coveted a black python clutch hand painted in silver; this season, it's the jeweled purple Nox python clutch ($768 upper left) with an amethyst buckle. My love of purple is beyond the fad of recent years-- my 96 year old grandmother adored amethyst stones and purple orchids and I have inherited her love of this royal shade.  For Fall/Winter 2009, Kara also offers a palate of neutral hues (for those less adventurous!)-- the lovely Nox taupe python clutch (above right $768) and the Nola hobo ($810 left) in taupe leather with python trim detail is timeless and chic for daily use.  For a dose of high glam, go for the Mia metallic python ($782 bottom left) with dark brown croc trim.  And I love the utilitarian chic of the Adora chocolate clutch in ostrich leg ($538 bottom right).  Utterly delicious!  The collection will hit stores in June.  Or check Kara Ross website for complete list of stores in your area!  Net-a-porter has a few must have Kara Ross clutches currently on sale here!

Valextra Premier Tote

valextragreen.jpgvalextraoyster.jpg

This is the most streamline and sleekest design ever and of course it is from Valextra, the King of simple chic. Nothing is snobbier than having absolutely no pretense. I don't have to flash my wares or even let you know what where or how. You know what I'm talking about, you see a girl with something amazing on and when you ask her where she got it, she smiles coyly and says, "Wouldn't you like to know?". How freaking snobby is that? Actually, that example goes beyond to bitchy, but you get my point. But that pretty much sums up the reason behind the lack of logos on brands like Valextra, Hermes and Bottega. This tote seems overly simple but look at how the straps are fused to the body of the bag, it is the most subtle of details but really really cool! At Barneys for $3270. Comes in this Verdes Prato Green and Oyster as well as a nude and black.

Longchamp Rodeo Luxe

longchamprodeoluxe.jpgLongchamp is our go to brand for travel and beyond-- it's not often that you'll find the words "practical" and "chic" in one sentence but it really describes its bags! I do not pack without at least one of the foldable nylon totes (you never know when you'll shop too much and need luggage space!) and now think I need this Rodeo Luxe tote for travel as well. It's big but lightweight and held up the test at the mall the other day-- I put everything in there including my son's sippy cup-- it's lined in easy to clean canvas so I don't have to worry about mishaps while traveling. The zipped front pocket is perfect size for a passport and boarding pass while the interior has several zipped compartments as well. I'm loving the azure blue-- it reminds me of the pacific ocean and was the color of my old Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante (oh how I miss that car!).

Longchamp 'Rodeo Luxe' Shopper is 15" wide and cost a mere $845 at Nordstrom. Do not ask me how much the Aston Martin will set you back-- it's way obscene but it was my wedding gift from the hubby so how could I refuse?

Flea Bag, Way Beyond the Fleamarket

fleabag_pebble.jpgfleabag_open.jpg

fleabag.jpgRemember the "I'm not a plastic bag" craze? Of course you did =) Well, get ready for the next storm to hit. The Flea Bag rage is gathering strength at the celebrity level and you will be seeing, hearing and buying a lot of this as editorial continues to flood worldwide. The original design was intended for the flea market, thus the name, to fit all your purchases while shopping. What makes it timely is the eco-conscious part, it is not vegan but the leather uses vegetable dye, the canvas is all organic hemp and cotton and the ink on the print is water based. There is nothing toxic, not even glue! And they are handmade in New York so you are also supporting the dying fashion manufacturing there. Essential for the summer for beach, on the road and weekend getaways. Or if you love flea markets and farmers markets, use it for what it was intended and avoid all those plastic bags! It is pretty big, 16" x 16" at its widest. Comes in white, pebble, saddle and coffee bean leather trim. At Luxcouture for $395 I also saw it in orange, which is fab, at WWD.

UPDATE: Already the demand is out of control on these bags and the designers have raised the price to $415. Hope you got one while you could at $395!!

Balenciaga Flap Bag

flapbagbalenciaga.jpgflaporange.jpg
You can not go wrong with a Balenciaga staple, the Flap bag.  Especially one in a punch of bright color for summer!  Only Balenciaga can make pink and orange look so cool and chic.  It just has that I don't give a F*%^ about trends and will set my own look about it.  Made of soft vintage crafted lambskin and aged brass hardware, the flap front bag is 11" X 5" X 8".   I love the distressed pink version, it's very punk rock barbie-- one who doesn't sit around waiting for Ken, she makes her own parties!  If you're not into the colorful versions, there is a pale metallic gold, silver, black and of course basic brown. The price is also really great for a Balenciaga made in Italy-- $995.00!  Get it here on the Balenciaga website.

M0851 Saddle Bag - Fall 2009

m0851_FALL 2009_saddlebag.jpg

I have been buying M0851 for years now even though they are not the most hip and stylish bags out there but they are so incredibly practical and lightweight! Well, it looks they've heard their customers grievances and have put all their efforts into design. This saddle bag in all serious honesty is one of the BEST buys you will ever make. First of all, the price cannot be beat for something that you will use for many many years (my first M0851 was bought 10 years ago and it still shows up on my arms). It is $260 and looks like a $4700 Loro Piana. OK, the leather is not the same but I want to say that this is better, did I mention it is super lightweight? It is very thin leather and not lined (but surprisingly sturdy) so it does not have the lush leather of a $4700 bag but when you plan on cramming your entire life in a bag, you will forgo the expensive heavy bag and go to this. Every time (unless of course you have a live in porter). The straps, the oversize front pocket with double tab closures, the subtle contrasting colors, the structured slouchy-ness - just perfect! All I can say is, thank you for listening to our bitching to make cuter bags. Mission accomplished. Available for $260 at their Soho boutique on Wooster, 212 431 3069. Check the M0851 online store soon for the Fall collection (not yet up).

Ferragamo Python Clutch

ferragamo_pythonclutch.png

I did some serious shopping today and believe it or not, the most exciting things I saw today was at Ferragamo. Yes, that's right, stupid grosgrain bow on everything Ferragamo. But oh no, this is not your mother's Ferragamo anymore. I am not going to say all their bags are good now but there are definitely key pieces that are very worthy. Like this wrap around clutch. It has so much edge, I really still cannot believe where I saw it. It would be a straight forward clutch but the wraps scrunch it up and kicks up the corners giving it a whole new shape. I don't even mind the hardware, I rather like the rings. There is a flap that is held with magnets as well as the strap, which I agree could get annoying but for the look, I'll deal with the hassle. At Ferragamo boutiques for $2600.
