Dior New Lock Small Flap Bag

dior_new_lock_small_flap_bag.jpg

Adorable chic, that's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw Dior's latest arm candy-- the New Lock flap bag.  Cleverly designed with Dior's now iconic quilting-- this is for the bag snob who loves a touch of girly ruffles toughened up with industrial link chains.  What a fab alternative to the classic shoulder bag!  I haven't coveted a Dior bag in ages, this may just be too cute to pass up!  What about you, when was the last time you bought a Dior bag?

Badgley Mischka Caroline Knot Tote

This is an OK bag but a fantastic laptop and work bag! Bag Snobs don't use briefcases, that is so passe. This tote with the knot detail adds some razzle dazzle so it can easily translate to the evening without looking like you're still clocked in. If you slouch it (by not putting a laptop in there) and wear it crossbody it will not look all business and can be a great weekend bag. The leather is buttery soft and lightweight, and it can be worn with the shoulder straps or with top handle. The price is also nice, at Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $498.

Horse+Nail Charlie Bag

user-pic
horsenail_charliebag2.jpg

The name sounds strange until you see the bag and then it totally makes sense. Yes, this is in fact inspired by horse and nails. But the origin of the name comes from designer Lindsey Hufnagel's last name, which in German means horse (Huf) and nail (nagel). So, was she bound to this look with such a name? I don't know but I like it! The horsebit has been done to exhaustion (Gucci) but here there is a slight twist to it - it is the shoulder strap with some rocker like chains to make it edgy like a futuristic outlaw rather than hoity toity polo player. The super grainy textured leather in military green is the perfect canvas to bring this back into city life (saddle brown would take this straight to tumbleweed town). There is an detachable long shoulder strap to wear this cross body with the chains and horsebit hanging but that look is highly discouraged. At Shopbop for $1280.

Yves Saint Laurent Chyc Large Flap Shoulder Bag

user-pic

ysl_chyc_large_shoulder_bag.jpg
Lady like shoulder bags define the Fall 2010 season and YSL defines chic with its new CHYC shoulder bag.  The longer strap is so flattering and creates an illusion of length which will make you look trim and slim (now who doesn't want that?!?!)  I love the way it looks dipping just below the hips and casually slung on the shoulder with a crisp white shirt and a pair of jeans (Chemin de Fer if you can find them!).  The clever use of the Y logo in brushed gold hardware is also gorgeous with the grainy patent leather.   I say for A/W 2010, put your Chanel bags to rest and grab a YSL Chyc instead!

Balenciaga Chain Handle Saddle Bag

user-pic

I was initially interested only because this looks nothing like the motorcycle bag, not that there is anything wrong with the motorcycle it's just that Balenciaga has done nothing new in 10 years. When I go in to my neighborhood noodle shop and half the women there has that bag or a close approximation of it, I'm gonna be turned off. But after looking at it for a couple of days, I have come to really love it. Not just because this is new for Balenciaga and I'm excited to see something new, this bag does stand on its own merit. Those giant outer pockets are the bomb! OK, so the straps are not at all original but who cares, it totally works here. Thank you for the shoulder pads because I just don't have it in me anymore to suffer for fashion. There is a total rocker vibe here that fits into a non-musical lifestyle. The exaggerated proportions, that's what does it here. Love! At Barneys New York for $2495.

Parker Ochs Frederico Travel Bag

user-pic

I'm not into patchwork bags but this one is actually interesting and done fairly well so I felt it at least deserved a mention (and hopefully a snob reader will adopt it!).  Parker Ochs's Frederico Travel Bag is that perfect casual & slouchy bag-- great for traveling or just running around doing daily errands.  The crocodile panels (front, back and sides), however, lend the hand stitched bag a touch of sophistication so you can actually dress it up.  I am impressed that they are able to keep the price so low, the handle is even made of woven crocodile!  Little touches of luxury, sometimes that is all you need.

Louis Vuitton Neo-Speedy PM

user-pic

alexa_chung_speedy.jpg

Check out the bag Marc Jacobs gave his VIP guests and top editors as their gift for the season. Don't you love? Each season, Marc sends a handful of very, very lucky ladies a bag that encapsulates the runway show they are about to sit front row at. This particular bag, the Neo-Speedy PM, is similar to its sister bag, the Carrousel, but in a simpler way. I love that the bag can be worn casually (see Alexa Chung) but also look terrific with a Chanel or Balenciaga suit. The calf leather is sumptuous--reminiscent of the Suhali leather--and it has a bit of a slouchy shape, although at its heart it's structured. Needless to say, it's plenty roomy and the top opens wide so you can easily find your belongings (the top zip for security reasons is much welcomed). Granted, I think it's overpriced and coupled with the special order disclaimer, this bag isn't for everyone.

$4,340, available by special order only

Miu Miu Leather Framed-Top Tote

user-pic

Miu_Miu_Leather_Framed_Tote.JPG
I'm interested in the frame on this bag, at first I thought it was Fendi, but not in a bad way. This has the same appeal the peekaboo has but it does not open on 2 sides. I love super sublet details on a minimal bag that adds pow to everything. I am also relieved that Miu Miu has ironed things out to bring a new look, finally! Live the slight vintage feel on a ladylike shape. There is a north/west tote with the same frame top but the proportions on that is totally thrown off, here it is perfect. At Bergdorf Goodman for $1295.

Valentino Jolie Patent Frame Bag

user-pic

valentino_jolie_framed_patent_bag.jpgvalentino_jolie_open.jpg

You look at this bag and think, OK, it's a nice patent bag but nothing special. Then you open it up and it is the coolest thing ever! It opens up like a Murphy bed to reveal 4 interior pockets and a separate coin purse. The coin purse is there because you really can't fit your wallet in it but it is a nice touch. It's meant to function like a clutch but it has the top handle for easy carrying. The nude patent is really dreamy and the itty bitty stud details are like sprinkles on a cupcake. Just when bags I thought I'd seen it all, I love being surprised!! Please, keep me guessing, it makes doing this so much more fun than it already is. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1895.
