Lanvin Padova Sac

lanvin_padova.jpg

The obsession with Lanvin will not end. Not as long as they keep surprising us with new incarnations of the things we love. The subtle but distinct detailing of Lanvin, like the strap and hardware detail here (similar to the Kentucky that we love love love) gives this highly functional but generic shape a beauty lift. And not only is the strap in a contrasting leather, it is patent and adjustable. It is lined in Lanvin jacard fabric which is good because it makes it much lighter. There are 2 organizational pockets inside that are a must have for a big bag like this and of course the side zip pocket. I have always complained that Lanvin bags are not the most user friendly, the chains are great looking but get kinked up (and we've heard of many breakages) and the pochettes are nearly impossible to get in and out of. But they have pulled out all the stops here (and maybe have been reading Bag Snob!) and made the perfect bag. This is definitely one of those bags you only need to buy one of and keep using it until you buy another next year, in a new color. It is $1,855 at Barneys and I hear they are going to have a 40% OFF the entire store sale, one day only. Keep your ears peeled - you do not want to let this one pass you by!

Botkier St. Tropez Tote

botkiersttropez.jpg
New York native Monica Botkier is an ex-fashion photographer with a keen eye for details. I have often admired her bags at stores, not only for its urban appeal but the price point. It would not be far fetched for me to say that she is one of the best brands in the under $500 market and her bags are made of good quality Italian leather, not canvas. I saw the St. Tropez the other day and liked the way she expanded the top handle so that you can actually slip it over your arm, not merely clutch it. Most Botkier bags depend on creative design and are not burdened down with heavy hardware, which is the case with the St. Tropez satchel. I am loving the gold version, which really shows off the streamlines of the bag. The beauty of the St. Tropez is in its simplicity, with this on your arm you're chic no matter what outfit or hour. $495 at Neiman Marcus

Tod's Private Sale - 40% OFF

tods_softy.jpegtods_plateausandals.jpeg
Softy Tote was $1800 now $1080, Plateau Sasha Sandals $595 now $357

tods_springcolors.jpgTod's is having a once in a lifetime sale, 40% off of everything in the Spring collection!! I guess the bad economy is affecting all of us - we can now enjoy massive savings!! =) I have been wanting the softy tote all season, they come in amazing spring colors and I am getting the light teal. I have been waiting for it to go on sale but I never expected 40% off!! It is so soft, like a big pillow, and is uber comfy and easy to use. I got the matching driving moccasins which makes for the ultimate duo for suburbia life (city life, I pay full price for!). This is a private sale for their loyal customers but call Carla at the Beverly Hills boutique at 310-285-0591, tell her Kelly Cook from Bag Snob sent you and she will let you have whatever you want! The private sale is May 15-17, after that the sale opens to everyone, but by then all the good stuff will have sold out, especially if you want shoes.

Nancy Gonzalez Croc and Python Satchel

NG_croc_python.jpg

There are those days we all need to be proper and ladylike - what can be more appropriate for that than this Nancy Gonzalez croc and python bag? It is eternally classic but the gold metallic python trim certainly spices things up a bit. The much needed pleating and the ruched python band definitely updates an otherwise traditional shape. I saw this bag on someone (at the Barneys Christian Louboutin personal appearance, everyone there had fabulous bags!) and immediately jumped her to get all the info on it. She had it in chocolate but I love the silver to make it a bit less serious, brown croc is the ultimate classic color for croc but it does make it kind of old lady-ish. And I don't ever like black croc because you can't see the detail in the skin. Of course, the best thing about Nancy Gonzalez is the fantastic price point. It is $3650 (for a mostly croc bag!!) at Bergdorf Goodman.

Erotokritos: Cheap Thrills of the Week!

Erotokritos Handbags Taupe Patent Basquet Bag $621

Erotokritos Handbags Blue Metallic Basquet Bag

Paris based Green/Cypriot designer, Erotokritos, is just the breath of fresh air I've been looking for in Cheap Thrills! Check out his line of funky wrinkled patent-leather bags with zipper pocket at front and knotted strap detail at sides. This is what young and hip Bag Snobs should be toting around the city! Your early 20's are the time of self expression and individual style (not that there is anything wrong with high end designer bags)-- tote this on your arm and instead of hearing-- "oh I have that bag" you'll hear "where did you get that bag!?!?"
The bright blue metallic version is extra cheeky and will guarantee you lots of attention! I like how he uses rolled leather as anchors to keep the bag's shape. It looks really square in the photos because they stuffed it full, it actually flattens out when you carry it under your arm. Now it won't pass muster with our seasoned Bag Snobs but hey, the young'uns gotta start somewhere! I also love his line of casually hip clothes, especially this adorable little blue sweater-- how sweet will that be with white jeans (I should mention I have a sick white pants obsession)? Bags $629 at Shopbop, clothes at Net a Porter. 11"H x 15"L x 5"D. 6" strap drop. Made in Italy.

White Hot Alligator!

whiterickymain.jpg
I was so close to getting the hot pink Ricky from Ralph Lauren but I got cold feet standing at the counter. I started thinking, "is this love? or just lust which will fade to serious buyer's remorse?" In the end, I let it go. Just as I started hunting for another summer exotic, Dana brought this stunner to my attention-- a gorgeous WHITE alligator Ricky!!! (I am so glad I waited for true love!) There were only four made in the world, and I have no idea why. I can not tell you how long I have dreamed of a white alligator bag, I mean alligator is the ultimate statement bag but in white it's almost sinful! The scales are immaculate and the interior is ultra functional; there are three separate compartments, including one that fits a blackberry or iPhone perfectly! It's a 33cm, which is big for me, but not overwhelming. Even men comment on this little beauty but I don't mind sharing and allow everyone to stroke its amazing skin.

By the way, Dana from Ralph Lauren just alerted me of their private 40% off sale with an additional 20% off starting today. Call her asap 214-522-5270. Don't even bother asking her for another white alligator Ricky, all four have sold! More photos after the jump!

Christian Louboutin Mini Aionoeud Alligator Clutch

Today is Christian Louboutin day! And if you think we love exotic, how do you think we feel about a Christian Louboutin exotic!! OK, so we have not been so kind and actually pretty critical of his bags but you cannot go wrong with a simple classic alligator clutch with his signature red leather lining!! To me, the fabulousness of this clutch falls in line with that of the shoe collection. Am I just loving it because it is alligator and I am on a Louboutin high? Yes, but I don't see any reason to discount the love based on those factors. It is a small (ok, mini) clutch, so it is traditional, but if you regularly attend formal affairs, you will need nothing else but this. That is the beauty of owning exotic, people expect you to keep coming out with it rather than snub you as a one trick pony. And they better because it does not come cheap, this baby is $4190 for not a lot of alligator. But it is less than his Very Prive in croc, which are $4990, and remember, shoes eventually wear out, bags, if well taken care of, do not. At Net a Porter.

Make sure to come back for the interview with Monsieur Louboutin. The story will post later today.

Maison Martin Margiela Convertible Beach Bag

MMM_beachtowelbag.jpegMMM_towel.jpg

This is the best thing I have seen in a long time. Now you can really be ready for the beach, I know I am. I just got the cutest hat today, it is big and floppy and has adorable colorful appliques. So, next thing I need is a bag and towel and lookie here, a two for one, bag AND towel. The bag unbuttons, unravels and becomes a giant beach towel. If you think about it, it does work out logistically, you just have to find a spot to put all your stuff while your towel is being transformed. I mean, usually, you empty everything out of the your beach bag anyways so like I said, it does work out eventually. This of course is for those who live close to the beach and frequents it on a regular basis. It not not meant for one of those family outing jobbers that involves coolers, tents and lawn chairs. It is great conceptually, super cute and surprisingly cheap, only $235!! At eluxury.

Jimmy Choo Keeya Tote

jimmychoo_keeya.jpgjimmychoo_keeya_int.jpg

If white is not for you, metallic silver is what you need for the hot weather. And it does in fact go with more and can get you through the rest of the year. This "slashed" leather adds a modern twist and the lining is stretchy so it will flex with the bag, good thinking! The bow is always a cute detail to make the bag go from ultra fem to serious jimmychoo_lawson_wedge.jpgoffice. The magnetic closure, double outer pockets and compartmentalized interior make this a handy companion you won't need to switch in and out of for weeks on end. They also have the peep toe Lawson wedges ($650) that you absolutely must have!! I have trouble with stilettos, the years of living in cobble stone Boston has left me weary of the ankle hazard, so the wedge and chunky heel trend comforts my heart and body =) The Jimmy Choo Keeya Tote at Saks for $1450 and the brand new Jimmy Choo boutique at Two Rodeo, 310 860 9045 (it is gorgeous and huge, with a great selection of everything Choo!).

Bottega Veneta: The Knots- A Retrospective

bottegaknots2.jpg

The Knots: Prices start at $1,100. Call Jasenka at 214-265-0136 to inquire about styles!

I went to the Bottega Veneta party toasting 30 years of the Knot bag last week and had the best time (it's hard not to have fun when there is flowing champagne, good food and gorgeous bags! But I would've had even more fun had I been at the LA dinner with Tomas Maier and Julie Gilhart on the patio of Barneys Greengrass the night before-- hint hint, Marisa -- okay fine, I promise I won't smother him with kisses!). There were incredible Knot bags from the Bottega archives on display along with current pieces for sale. Not only were they amazing to see, I learned so much about the history of this elegant clutch. When it was first introduced, the knot was actually a rectangular crystal clasp (that is how you can distinguish vintage knot clutches from current ones) but the silhouette has always been the same chic and simple style. More after the jump!

Givenchy Obsession

whitenightingale.jpg
Givenchy Nightingale, 12.5"x19" $1,995 at Barneys

I am completely obsessed with Givenchy lately, it actually began over a year ago when I first spotted the Nightingale at Barneys but lately I can't get its urban chic bags and edgy sexy shoes out of my mind. My friend Sasha has a similar obsession (one that I can't discuss) and we have spent hours lamenting over Givenchy! I am especially loving the latest Nightingale incarnation in white smooth leather and Tejus lizard handles. Fresh and clean, with just a touch of metallic pizazz, it's really one of the best white bags out right now. And check out the Grommet clutch below ($995), it is smokin' hot à la "Love is a Battlefield"! Givenchy - 583995 (Gold) - Footwear
Okay, so it's about as far from a classic birkin as one can veer in taste but if you knew me you would understand. I get bored easily and need excitement constantly, and let me tell you, Givenchy is exciting! Now that I am a mommy, I don't hit the night scene. But I still like to let the little vixen inside me out for a bit of naughty fun, even if it's only through my bags. Check out the shoes I am drooling over after the jump. At Barneys and Shopbop. Gold gladiator shoes also at Zappos!

What about you, what is your "go to" brand when you want a little excitement?

What I Want for Mother's Day

lindytan_sm.jpgbottega_tri_pink.jpgzagliani_puffypython.jpgsmythoson_brushroll.jpg

OK, so this is not the most subtle hint but what the hell, I am just trying to be practical and maybe help out those thoughtful and considerate husbands who read our site to get gift ideas for their lucky wives. Any one of these would be an AWESOME Mother's Day gift but all of them would be a dream come true. For a real surprise, the Hermes Lindy would do the trick. If you have been in the dog house, this will get you out. $5,600 Craig at Hermes, 214-528-0197. Any practical mom can use the Bottega Veneta Tri Compartment ($2780) and in pink, it is sure to delight! The Zagliani Puffy Python Satchel ($3100), has been on my list of must haves for a while now. The puffy shape makes it young and easy to wear everyday and the silicone injected python makes the skin luscious! For the bag and beauty snob, Smythson's Beauty Roll ($510) in Azure is not only beautiful but quite useful! All the mink and sable brushes are included. You are getting a deal here for this one. Be good to your mother's. Sure it's the thought that counts and a hug is the best gift in the world, but come on! This is the real world and we expect nice gifts!!! =)

Hermes Scarf Knotting Tips and Tricks Part Two

bluejeanscarf.jpg
I meant to post this last week but with our server down for two days, I completely forgot! So here it is, my favorite ways to tie and knot scarves on bags. The blue jean birkin above is tied with a limited edition cotton Hermes scarf. I found that the cotton ones were easiest to work with but I like the way the silk scarves hang better. The style above may be done by folding your scarf diagonally (2 inch thickness), then tie a knot on the handle-- keeping one side four inches longer than the other, pull through a single bow instead of two and voila, instant chic-ness. See more styles after the jump!

3.1 Phillip Lim Gwen Bag

philiplim_gwen.jpg

Everyone needs a fun red bag, the brightness will perk you up faster than your double latte (but I still need my latte). The contrasting natural leather straps make this easy to wear but with a red bag, there are no rules. Well, expect one, don't wear all red with it. If you feel like Rainbow Bright, go ahead and be colorful all over and top it off with this bold bag. Or be neutral and let the bag speak for you. Anyway you go, I love this bag. It is also majorly practical, the magnetic side pockets are a dream. The price points for 3.1 Phillip Lim are amazing, so although this is our cheap thrill pick of the week, it certainly is no slouch of a bag, the quality and leather is divine. If you have a serious job, wouldn't this be a fun weekend bag? Happy Friday everyone! At Browns Fashion for $910.

Jil Sander Expandable Clutch

jilsander_exp_clutch.jpgjilsander_exp_int.jpg

For the type-A organizational freaks who don't wear makeup, this is the perfect clutch for you! I always fret over the loose heap in my clutch, I have pouches and cardholders but a clutch just cannot be organized enough! Well, the meticulous Jil Sander has come up with the perfect solution. And she's assuming you neat freaks will not think to besmirch your face and bag with make up, not even even lip gloss because there is just no room for it here. Although a really flat phone will fit on the side with the strap because no one can actually go without a phone, especially those who are obsessive compulsive. Seriously, how do you obsess and compulse without a phone? And not to get nitpicky or anything but this clutch does not actually "expand", it merely just opens. It would be more useful and accommodating of at least a soft tube gloss if it did expand a little but with the croc, it is just too rigid for that. Navy croc with red leather lining (which is amazing!!). At Browns Fashion for $2670.

Replacing the Big with the Bold

boldbags.jpg
Chloé Ines Box Clutch $1,380/Marc Jacobs Quilted Soft Pouch $695
3.1 Philip Lim Gigi Woven Clutch $495/Marc Jacobs Quilted Oversized Pouchette $1,275

Not that you could ever tell by taking a peek inside one of my handbags, (where you are sure to find a potpourri of gum, eye shadows, Gelly Roll pens, agendas, hair pins, compacts and the list goes on) but I am actually a hyper-organized gal! I just happen to feel better knowing I have everything I may need just below my shoulder. Needless to say, I am all about toting an oversized bag!

That said, when summer rolls around I tend to shed the big bags for smaller ones. There is something about the heat that makes carrying around a handbag that weighs as much as a small suitcase, too unappealing. Which is why I am absolutely thrilled that there are so many new, bright, bold clutches. I am loving the new styles from the always fabulous Chloe, Marc Jacobs and Philip Lim. Fuschia, yellow, vermilion, scarlet, seriously, what could be more perfect for washing away the cold weather blues! Paired with a simple black or gray summer dress, a bold clutch is just right for that touch of pop – fantastique!

What about you, how do you lighten up your bagload for the summer season?

Maison Martin Margiela Spotlight Clutch

spotlightclutch.jpg

Don't just be in the spotlight, be the spotlight! This clutch gives new meaning to being "flashy". You will look like you have constant paparazzi flashing their cameras at you!! This amazing and fabulous clutch that is sure to attract fun and conversation. And honestly, I would use it to glam up a dull outfit. You can load up your stuff with this bigger sized clutch but not only that, the length is kind of necessary so that you don't block the starburst when you're carrying it. Good thing Margiela thought of that because seriously, this is a mistake I do not put past many designers. I have been rough on him and I still don't see this as a must have, practical bag but it certainly caught my eye ;-) Maison Martin Margiela Spotlight Clutch at eluxury for $995. Not a bad price for a place in the spotlight.

White Hot Summer Bags

ysl_marjorelle_white.jpglanvin_pythonpochette.jpg
bottega_umbria_white.jpgmiumiu_white_metelasse.jpg

YSL Marjorelle $1395, Lanvin Python Pochette $1830
Bottega Venta $2780, Miu Miu Matelasse $1590

Are you ready for summer? Well, first things first, you gotta get your white bags on! Here are our favorite bags in white for the summer. And who says you can't wear white after Labor Day? Total non-sense, especially when we are talking about fabulous classic bags that are appropriate for all seasons and occasions. The YSL Marjorelle has become one of my favorite bags this season (I have the blue but now am wishing I had waited for this white!!). The Lanvin pochette in python is a steal for $1830 and is the perfect bag for your tiny summer dresses or even a hot evening out with a tropical cocktail, umbrella and all. For the practical gals, the tri-compartment Bottega Veneta breezes from work to weekends. And if you are in between hip and pragmatic, the Miu Miu is genius for all events in your life. It has stood the test of time so even though it is a trend bag, you will be able to use it for many seasons to come. Like with everything else, before anything can get started, you must first have the perfect bag!

By the way, the Lanvin and Miu Miu is 40% off at Barneys Dallas for one day only! Call Pam or Cory at 469-221-4807

Ports 1961 Jute Clutch

ports_jute_clutch.jpg
.

Summer is a great season to get away with Cheap Thrills because of all your linen/canvas options. And what better way to update your wardrobe than with a fun clutch, like this jute clutch from Ports 1961! It is simple enough to be the one go-to clutch for the whole season but is chock full of style with the contrasting patent leather trim and ebony stone detail. The natural is the obvious choice for summer but it also shows off the jute much better with a bit of contrast with the leather. The black of course is amazing as well but how often will you need a black clutch for the summer? And in jute, you really can't transition this past September (and that's pushing it too, depending on where you live). This is the perfect vacation bag, easy to pack and goes with everything. But back at home, it is easy for any casual nights out with your favorite pair of jeans or spaghetti strap dress (I only say that because you need a clutch for spaghetti straps to avoid unhinging of the whole dress). This is a quick decision purchase, $475 can take care of your summer clutch needs. At Vivre.

The Sexy Weekend Getaway

dessybyjimmychoo.jpg

Jimmy Choo Dessy Weekender $1,395 at Jimmy Choo.com

To unwind from the longest week of my year so far, I am fantasizing about a weekend getaway with my hubby. missonidress.jpgOf course, he just announced we're going to the Byron Nelson (what is that you ask? Exactly!) -- and it is the last place I want to be on a Saturday afternoon. Well, a girl can still dream, and here is what I'd bring with me, if he surprised me and whisked me off to St. Barts for the weekend. First, I'd pack the Jimmy Choo Dessy weekender bag with a great dress and a pair of hot shoes. whiteloubies.jpgI just got these ultra fab white Louboutins. I know my hubby will love them, too, but he'd kill me, if I wore these on the golf course at the Byron! Anyway, continuing with my fantasy ... the dress I'd wear to the romantic dinner he'd plan on the beach in a private tent would be this sexy Missoni wrap dress. It's alluring without being too obvious--I am a mother after all. Come to think of it ... I should wear this to the Byron! Maybe he'll get the hint! Missoni dress at Net-a-Porter; Louboutins at Barneys. Have a great weekend all!
(Bag Snob Note: The Bag Snob hubby protests this entry and wants it on record that he is taking me to Paris for 2 weeks in June :) I told him about this entry to him and he is not amused, lol.)

Maia N Python Wrap Clutch

maian_wrappclutch.jpg

I saw this bag in Glamour and had to plagiarize Suze Yalof Schwartz's work (Executive Fashion Editor at Large) because you have to see this amazing clutch (plus, she said I could!). This line was created by sisters Maya and Joanna Nakhle and their clients include a long list of royalty (Queen Rania of Jordan has this clutch!), as well as Carine Roitfeld, which in this industry is considered royalty. All of their bags are adorned with semi-precious jewels, like the ebony seen in this bag. I love how it is incorporated into the design rather than it just sitting on top like how most jeweled bags are. I absolutely love this brown python but for those who are squeamish about the natural snake look, it also comes in white, black and orange (how amazing would that be???). They are still small and accommodating so can do custom orders and also very humble because their prices are crazy affordable! This clutch is only $650! Hello, can I get one in every color, please? You don't even have to be the Queen of Jordan! They have just entered the US market (which means, get this at a bargain while you can) and are available at Tracey Ross in LA, Printemps in Paris, Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong and Podium in Russia (any Russian readers out there?). You can also email them for specific ordering info.
