Louis Vuitton Sequin: Snob or Slob?

lvalmablackse.jpglvgoldspeedyse.jpg
Don't crucify me for featuring Louis Vuitton monogram bags, I'm just the messenger-- this showed up in my inbox and had to share! Wow, did they really bedazzle each logo with sequins?  Imagine the labor... I'm tired just thinking about it.  The Speedy Gold above is $2,160 (hefty!) and love the new handles. The Alma Eclipse ($2,470) in black sequins is quite eye catching.  You have to admit they are getting really creative with the iconic monogram. MJ said he was inspired by Parisian muses of great creators.

"... The Victorie de Castellane, the Loulou de la Falaise, the Betty Catroux... all these people that I remember that were just about the joy of getting dressed. The joy of being a woman, the joy of being a girl, the rebellion of saying "I don't care what's going on, "I'm just going to have a good time. Maybe it's a little Marie Antoinette too."

Marc Jacobs played with fabric on the bags just as he did with the RTW (which I'm obsessed with by the way, LV ready to wear is friggin' hot!). What do you think of the Speedy Gold Sequin? Snob or Slob? (Update: just added the Alma Eclipse, what do ya think?)

The Fall/Winter Trunk show is heading to Neiman Marcus North Park this weekend-- jump for details!

Rich in Craft Antler Bag

richincraft2.jpgNow I've seen it all! A wool bag with a glass urethane antler (yup, you read it correctly) top handle from a company called "Rich in Craft". I actually like that they went outside of the usual design box and came up with something so unique but all I see when I look at it is "danger! danger!". I carry bags on the crook of my arm and I can just see this stabbing myself and my child not to mention innocent bystanders that get in my way. Come to think of it, this could be a good weapon to use at night. You single girls could use it to ward off unsolicited creeps, just stab them in the eye girls!

RICH IN CRAFT - GLASS URETHANE ANTLER TOP HANDLE $1800 USD/1300 euro

Roger Vivier Tejus Faceted Clutch: Snob or Slob?

vivier.jpgviviertejus.jpg
viviertejus1.jpgRoger Vivier (inventor of the stiletto heel and of the pilgrim buckle fame) has a new clutch that doesn't seem to quite capture the essence of the legendary designer. The tejus (tejus is a type of lizard with distinctive poka dotty spots) faceted clutch is interesting in itself and really does not require the multi hued colors (that resemble mold). A solid shade would have been much more chic plus it'd be less noticeable that only bits and pieces were used to make this 850 Euro/$1200 clutch. I do like the modernized pilgrim buckle and I guess one could argue the prism like patches look edgy and modern in a Star Trekkish way (have you seen? I've heard so much about it but am just not a Trekkie and don't care!) but still-- it's a lot of money for pieces of scrap skin.

Louis Vuitton Denim Bag: Snob or Slob?

lvdenimpatchbag.jpg I have no words for Louis Vuitton's python-interior embroidered denim bag with multi-beaded handle (and are those feathers I see dangling nonchalantly?!?!?).  I guess one could use it inside out and pretend it's really a python bag lined in denim. I mean it would make more sense but then you'd lose out on the kaleidoscope of logos in rainbow colors and we all know LV fans love their logos!   This actually makes me sad; after touring Louis Vuitton's home and atelier I'd developed a newfound respect for the brand, but this-- this makes no sense whatsoever (though it could have been made purely for editorial purposes, or for Beyonce).  What do you think?  SNOB or SLOB?

Jimmy Choo KiKi Bag: Snob or Slob?

jimmychookikibag.jpgCheck out Rachel Bilson with the latest Jimmy Choo arm candy, the Kiki bag.  Many bag designers have jumped on the Tribal Safari trend this season (remember the MJ mess?) but Jimmy Choo's version is softened up with tortoise shell chain strap which gives it an elegant touch.  Keeping the wild safari tone mostly on the flap also makes it versatile-- if you get tired of it, simply flip the flap over and leave open(jump for photos)!   I'm not a patchwork safari bag girl but if you love this trend, this bag is the one for you.

Thankfully Rachel understands that one should not compete with a bag as extravagant as this and keeps her outfit simple and basic in black.

Bottega Veneta Mini Crochet Ball Bag: Snob or Slob

bottegaballbag.jpgI really have no words for this ball (spare tire holder?) bag from Bottega Veneta.  It's 18" around so I don't know how one is supposed to carry it, balanced on your head?  Clutched to your middle like a pillow?  Yes, I know when you pick up the all leather version it slouches like a ball but this one is more structured and holds its shape as a flying saucer.

I imagine the crochet technique is very difficult because they are charging $5,200 for this thing. Wait, I just thought of more uses for it-- moon cake carrier or a pizza delivery bag but hello, five grand?!?!?

I am quite concerned-- with news of Prada losing $50 million a day you'd think everyone else would be scrambling to produce bags that people will actually want to buy and use (not to mention afford!).  At Barneys New York.  What do you think?  Snob or Slob?

Christian Louboutin Watersnake Saba Bag: Snob or Slob?

louboutinsabasnake.jpgWe are slowly but surely warming up to Louboutin bags. I mean we're not jumping up and down and goading each other to buy them but they're at least not making us cringe anymore. This Pale green water snake slouchy hobo bag is cute in an oversized, I want to carry my baby in it kind of way. The discreet tag is also a plus and it's much more subtle to have the signature red lining than a pair of stilettos as clasps. I'm not crazy about watersnake, the skin is delicate and tears easily, plus this is very expensive for one. And the more I stare at it, the more I'm thinking "baby sling". Nina Ricci Fall 2009 Bags: Snob or Slob?

nina-ricci-bags-09.jpg
I was slightly excited about Nina Ricci bags when I first heard but then remembered Olivier Theyskens is no longer with the brand. What a pity!  Without his edgy take on ladylike classics Nina Ricci just looks like it has always been-- geared to mature women. I understand the need to continue to please their core clientele, the older European and Asian "tai tai" ladies (this is why there are dozens of free standing Nina Ricci stores in Asia and Europe and not any in the US).  The ladies were probably freaked out by Olivier, whom I adore.  Wonder where he'll end up next!  But back to the bags at hand.  I am not feeling the logo.  The hobo style is okay but what's with the dangling ribbon from the old fashioned logo?  No Bueno!  This is way too "old" for anyone, even if one is old, age is just a number-- you don't have to dress it or carry "old" bags.  I love older women who rock young edgy bags; it's very chic and much better than trying to wear your teenage daughter's Ed Hardy tank tops and ripped jeans.

What do you think of the new bag collection?  Snob or Slob?

Jil Sander Bubble Boudoin: Snob or Slob?

jil-sander-bubble.jpg jilsander_handle.jpgJil Sander bags generally have immunity with us-- it's hard to rag on its line of simply constructed bags but the Bubble Boudoin bag... this one is making me go... hummm. I don't hate it; I find the cracked leather edgy and fun (a bit cheap looking when you see it in person though) but the handles give me major creeps. Too similar to a centipede, caterpillar and body parts that shall remain nameless; I'm just not feeling it. And it's not because I am jaded, really! I'm very excited about a violet Tod's python hobo I just got (so amazing I can't stop looking at it and admiring it's beauty!) and Givenchy's entire spring bag line makes me drool every time I go to Barneys so it's not me! I think the bag just lacks the just cause for its price tag of $1,595-- it looks more like something from Forever 21 for $25. What do you think? Snob or Slob? At Barneys New York.

Miu Miu Cut Out Basket: Snob, Slob or for the Fruits?

miu_miu_cutout_basket.jpgCantaloupe for $1!  Apples for $3!  This is what I want to shout when I see Miu Miu's Cut Out Basket.  It looks like it was inspired by ladies in Asia who shop for fresh fruits daily. You can see them out each morning before it gets hot; walking leisurely while chatting and laughing (sometimes carrying parasols). The only difference is their basket is made of plastic and cost $5.

Guess how much this one is? £484GBP/$696 USD. (And no, this is not an April Fool's Joke!)  Okay so it's made of patent leather instead of plastic but still, it is way expensive even if you want to use it for a fun beach bag to hold you child' toys in. Not a bad idea to use for the beach, actually.  No sand will stick inside as it will all fall through the cracks.  Miu Miu Cut out Basket Bag at Net-a-Porter.com
