What will your bag be worth in 20 years?

bagsnobpredicts.jpg
Check out the May 5th issue of US magazine, we were asked to estimate the value of the the ridiculous Louis Vuitton Joke bag and the adorable Prada Fairy bag in 20 years. If you bought either of these bags, take good care of them, they'll be worth a fortune in the future! This is what we told US:
The Prada Fairy bag is a slice of modern pop art at its best. The fusion of designer bag and art is a modern day phenomenon and one that is sure to increase in value. Prada bags are not known to keep their value but with James Jean's touch, the Fairy Bag as wearable art should fetch at least $5,000 in 20 years. That is, if he is still alive. If he is not, the price may be double that!

Louis Vuitton is a fashion behemoth that requires quite a bit to stir up. Richard Prince is provocative and edgy and is just what they needed to keep things fresh and one step ahead. LV keeps its value well and being that this bag is a piece of "art" and is trimmed in python, you can be sure in 20 years it will be worth close to $10,000. But I'm just being perfectly objective and rational, otherwise, this bag is a hideous disaster!

This is just a taste of the Bag Snob Guide book to come :)

Bag Snob in Singapore Bazaar September 2007

hb_logov2.gif

The Power of a Post:
Kelly Cook and Tina Chen Craig were housewives - albeit ones who owned their own Chloe Paddingtons - simply blogging about their love for designer bags until they "outted" a fake handbag site. Today, they aren't shy to say that they, as bloggers called the BagSnob, are responsible for selling out designer bags that have their stamp of approval. "Anya Hindmarch is the best example of the kind of influence we can have on one designer," elaborates Cook. "We featured the Alessandra bag a few months ago and all their stores were inundated with calls. This bag was sold out within days." Cook and Craig make a post nearly every day about one bag or another, detailing aspects of the bag that would otherwise never make it to magazines - like how the Bottega Veneta Anaconda Lucida Lux is a slouchy frame bag that will never lose its shape or how one bag (shall remain unnamed) is a "been-there-done-that military inspired Mulberry knock-off". These brutally frank reviews are just what readers keep coming back for to the snobs for bag advice.

Bazaar's top 5 picks:
Bagsnob: Hilarious reviews of the current bags to hit shelves - "it" or not, these two bag-lovers say it like it is. Now celebrity bloggers in their own right, they take on the big brands daily, revealing what they feel is misguided design sense, shoddy workmanship or just plain ugliness in their irreverent know-it-all style.

Love and thanks to our devoted reader, Brendan of [vogue] , for typing the article out for us!

Bag Snob on The Style Network and E! International

e-logo.gifI am still in LA and am exhausted from a whirlwind of activities. We have been up to lots of fun stuff, including appearances in the new series from E! Style Network and E! International named "25 most Stylish" , it's a series of countdown shows of the top 25 fashion icons, red carpet looks, celeb couples, etc. There will be a total of 6 episode in the series that will be broadcast globally to 660 million viewers! We are in 3 episodes along with (are you ready?)... Tom Ford (to die right?!?!), the legendary Paul Cavaco, Tamara Mellon and a few other illustrious fashion figures. To say that we were awe struck in the company of this group would be an understatement. Look for us in this fabulous new series starting November!

Wall Street Journal: The New Politics of Purses

wsjimage.jpg

Anaconda or Python? You thought it was a matter of taste but you are really taking a position in a global debate over which slithering creature is more at risk of endangerment! Vanessa O'Connell from the Wall Street Journal interviewed me after seeing the story on my Bottega Anaconda and my love of exotics. Watch for us in another WSJ article this week, we were interviewed twice in one day by the New York and Dallas WSJ bureaus, purely a coincidence but we still felt very serious and quite smart ;). Needless to say, our husbands are thoroughly impressed as they are better versed in the Wall Street Journal than in Vogue.

Full WSJ article here.

Perhaps a little TMI but we were flattered to be featured by GlamLive for a little fun questionnaire about ourselves. You probably know all about our closets by now so here is a little glimpse of the rest of us. I wasn't really thinking when I answered these questions, some of them are kinda embarrassing! Maybe we were a little too honest, but I guess that's what you guys are here for, our no holds barred, tell them like it is, honesty =)

Bag Snobs Going Green...or are they?

The Chicago Tribune wants to know if this environmental bag craze is a real trend. The Bag Snob is quoted in the article saying I go for plastic for now but only in cases of extremely leaky chicken! I use the I'm Not a Plastic Bag for all my shopping now and if I do occasionally ask for the one plastic bag here and there, I am still saving many many with each shopping trip. Not to be defensive or anything =) Read on for the whole story.

10 Best Fashion Blogs

Danielle Radojcin, Fashion Editor of Handbag.com named Bag Snob one of top 10 BEST fashion blogs! We are extremely flattered to be in the company of sites such as "On The Runway" by Cathy Horyn of the New York Times and extend our congratulations to everyone featured on the list. (Complete list.)

From Handbag.com:
Okay, so we admit that the recent explosion of weblogs on the internet has resulted in a profusion of badly-written commentaries which wouldn't look out of place in the diary of a bored thirteen-year old (with the grammar and spelling to match). But, as with so many things in life, all it takes is a bit of tenacity and - hey presto - a few gems emerge - which is where handbag comes in... We've sorted through the dross to bring you what we consider the 10 best fashion blogs out there. Informative, funny, and often downright rude, they should keep you distracted through your - ahem - coffee break, and beyond

fashionblogfront.jpgThe Bag Snob
Good for: Straightforward information. If it's good, the bag snob will say so, and if not, the bag snob will tell you that, too. As well as handbag giveaways, they also cover fashion and celebrity gossip in general, and invite readers to vote on celebrity photos in their hilarious 'Snob or Slob' section.

Need to know: Tina and Kelly are The Bag Snob Girls, who present 'a selective editorial on bags'. They bring you handbag-related news daily, and aren't afraid to be very opinionated.

Blog sampler: 'I am super irritated by the latest trend of clear PVC see-thru bags; not only are they ugly and cheap looking, they're outrageously expensive.' "

Apple Daily

Apple Daily, Taiwan and Hong Kong's #1 newspaper honored Bag Snob with a full page profile last month. A big Thank You to Chia Hua Lin for her in depth report and for introducing us to thousands of new readers in Asia! Our families were able to read this and finally understand our business (and that we're not just "playing" on our computers all day long. Well, we actually are playing but it's not our fault our work is so fun!). My 93 year old grandmother, who has been my inspiration for a lifetime, is most proud of us and that means the world to me. Thanks Kel for the introduction to Chia Hua. xoxo

Taiwan's Eastern Times newspaper re-printed our article on the LV Tribute Patchwork bag last week, causing our traffic to more than double. Bag Snob in Vogue Japan and Vogue Brazil

voguejapan.jpgKelly didn't want me to post this because she said people are annoyed (mostly bloggers who don't know us) when we mention our latest press and perceive it as shameless self promotion. So for everyone's edification, we have this Press link because we have been too busy to put together a proper press kit and this is a way for our advertisers to see different markets we are reaching, so if you are not an advertiser, skip this nonsense and go down to the latest "it" bags! We have not solicited any of the press we've received to date and we don't really know how they keep finding us. We are also baffled that fashion editors of prestigious international magazines continue to contact us for interview but we are grateful and humbled by the attention given to us. So without further ado or fuss, here is the latest:
Bag Snob is featured in the March issue of Vogue Japan and January issue of Vogue Brazil. Please pick up a copy at your local newsstand and support Vogue. Thank you all for reading :)
