Love how chic my dear friend Bryan Boy looks in our DL1961 x Bag Snob jeans today in Brooklyn! The jeans are sold out on Shopbop and at Bloomingdales but are still available at Neiman Marcus. Bryan is wearing the Emma “Hipster” jeans in Bedford, a Neiman Marcus exclusive. They are both mine and Kelly’s favorites, we often wear them on the same day to the same meetings! They’re so easy to wear with everything from black to white and gray or just with a fabulous fur like Bryan did. And yes, they’re women’s jeans but look just as hot on the boys! Get the Emma Hipster jeans here!
Maison du Posh clutches are anything but posh. I’m all about exotic skin bags– especially in a timeless envelope style. But the cheap stitching of the skins and gaudy hardware took it to the other side of tacky. I’m blaming the clutter of trends, a case of too much of a would-be good thing. Manageable on black python ($1,256), but in ultra trendy holographic blue ostrich
($1,543) the overall effect is an assault on the eyes. Though I do appreciate the fact that the knuckle ring-style hardware (thank you, Alexander McQueen!) is actually functional, it just looks wrong and haphazardly placed as if it was an afterthought.
What say you: snob or slob? Available on Luisa via Roma.com.
The holiday season may be almost over, but the shopping season never ends! Net-a-Porter’s international sale has begun, with new items going up to 30, even 50% off. Bags like McQueen Knucklebox clutches (perfect for your New Year’s outfit) and Proenza PS1s are discounted, so don’t miss out. Shop the sale here!
We’ve seen plenty of north south shopper totes, but with the addition of a top handle, everything is changed – and not for the better. An elongated shape draws the eyes in, but keep in mind that it also drowns your belongings to unreachable depths – and surely at the least convenient moments. The subtly jarring optical effect is cool for about a second (reminds me a little of man bags), but then I’m over it because bottom line, I’m worried I’ll never be able to find my things in the black hole.
Proenza Schouler PS1 Tote Leather: Proenza gets top billing because they did it first and probably best (hard to go wrong with a PS1). Now the trend is finally catching on. At Barneys New York for $1,995.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Belmont Hobo: The sheen on the black leather looks nice with gold hardware, but this reminds me of an oversized lunchbox. Ditch the top handle and stick with the shoulder strap. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $478.
Rochas Crocodile Embossed Leather N/S Tote: This tote looks really stiff and rigid, and the tapered top doesn’t give you easy access. How much harder can they make this? At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,540.
Acne Piers Tote: Definitely the worst one. Without the front detailing, this bag would’ve been chic, but the fringe flap makes it look like a giant golf shoe. Fore! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,100.
Theyskens’ Theory Wilona Abuk Bag: This is huge as an everyday bag, but as an overnighter, it would be pretty cool. Love the dark and romantic croc-embossed suede. On Shopbop for $623 (from $890).
Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas! I cooked for 21 people, wrapped hundreds of presents, acquired a hamster and pretty much lost my mind but was deliriously happy! What also makes me happy is this Mark Cross custom Scottie satchel for the CW’s new series The Carrie Diaries, aka Sex and the City’s teenybopper prequel. Given the show’s time period, this bag needed to deliver on ‘80s goodness, and it completely succeeded with a new Pollock-style paint job. This is kind of genius – I always thought the Scottie was a little mature, but with a fresh coat of neon glow, it’s youthful and carefree. And we can all customize our Scotties a la Miss Carrie Bradshaw (played by bubbly AnnaSophia Robb) by ordering directly through Mark Cross and Barneys. How will you design yours?? Available for $1,950.
Finally, a bag from Balmain I can get behind! The partnership between wunderkind artistic director Olivier Rousteing and Parisian-chic jewelry designer Aurélie Bidermann has proven to be a great thing for the brand. It also proves, once again, less is more.
Who needs studs and shock value when you have an inherent sense of cool? Yes, a rectangle of lush suede is nothing revolutionary, though while it looks similar to many other bags out there, it’s undeniable that the Pierre has its own unique flavor. Take casual ease, add obvious functionality, not to mention luxuriant sheepskin lining, and you’ve got one practical bag. But thanks to Aurélie’s faux-ivory tooth – equal parts rocker glam and flirty bohemian – along with other defining details, Pierre is destined to reach covetable-cult status. The neutral colors are well and good, but clearly, I’m all about the red for making an ultimate impact. Inquire at Balmain for purchase and at Barneys New York locations.
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! We will be back to normal posting tomorrow. Merry Christmas!
