Frugal Snob: Molly Sims in Fullum & Holt

mollyinfullum.jpgMolly Sims looking effortlessly stylish while out shopping for sunglasses. Her casual look of leather jacket with jeans was capped off with a rocker chic bag by Fullum & Holt (a name you need to know about). Crafted from supple lambskin, Fullum & Holt's "Oversized Spiral" retails for $600 and is available in black and cream as well as a smaller version, the "Half Spiral" which retails for $575 (they look like pillows and I kinda want to cuddle).

The collection can be purchased online at Fullum Boutique here, as well as at select retail outlets for $480 - $720.

About Fullum & Holt designer: Recognized for his eccentric leather cuts, his sophisticated tailoring and his outright fascination for everything that's unconventional, Denis Gagnon is, without a doubt, one of the most important Canadian designers in this day and age.

Jimmy Choo Blythe: Office Chic

blythejimmychoo.jpg

A few readers emailed me that they got the Jimmy Choo Blythe for work and that it fits everything but the kitchen sink. I say, you will make it to CEO soon (if you aren't already) with such a hot bag. It shows you are above the curve and possess exceptional decision making skills. The buckles show you are on the cutting edge but you know exactly when too much is too much. Four buckles on each side going half way up is the perfect amount. The classic shape is uber pragmatic and the all around zipper that opens the bag entirely gives it extreme functionality as you slide your laptop in and out with ease. There are 2 separate compartments, one larger than the other. You will never be caught fumbling through your bag. Including looking for your keys because it comes with a detachable key ring that can be clasped to the interior loop. Too chic for the office really, but you always impress! At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $1895, also comes in taupe.

Bottega Veneta Mini Crochet Ball Bag: Snob or Slob

bottegaballbag.jpgI really have no words for this ball (spare tire holder?) bag from Bottega Veneta.  It's 18" around so I don't know how one is supposed to carry it, balanced on your head?  Clutched to your middle like a pillow?  Yes, I know when you pick up the all leather version it slouches like a ball but this one is more structured and holds its shape as a flying saucer.

I imagine the crochet technique is very difficult because they are charging $5,200 for this thing. Wait, I just thought of more uses for it-- moon cake carrier or a pizza delivery bag but hello, five grand?!?!?

I am quite concerned-- with news of Prada losing $50 million a day you'd think everyone else would be scrambling to produce bags that people will actually want to buy and use (not to mention afford!).  At Barneys New York.  What do you think?  Snob or Slob?

Alexander McQueen Wishbone Shopper

Do you have $6,380 to blow? That's how much the Wishbone shopper from Alexander McQueen will set you back. And no, there is no crocodile trim but you can tell that a lot of labor was wasted on this fringed mess. I don't hate the bag, just parts of it. Let's be sweet and discuss what I love about it. I love the wishbone rivets, the basket weave leather, and the whip stitched top edge-- it all looks so luxurious and well made. But the awful shaggy fringe destroys any chance of this bag ever seeing the light of day on my arms. This sucker is also huge at 52cm/20" wide. I do like McQueen's attitude of let them eat cake. Why should he care if the world is in a global wide recession? His job is to design and stir our senses; figuring out how to pay for it is our problem. Chloe Sally Calfskin Shoulder Bag

Chloe_SallyShoulderBag.jpgchloe_sallybag_sideview.jpg

The Sally calfskin bag from Chloe is not exactly a "jump up and down, gimme gimme, I gotta have it" type of bag but it has its own very chic appeal.  I love the look of chain style flap bags on a wide bottomed bag-- I actually have a Gucci bag from the early '90s in this exact shape but the chains didn't have the shoulder rest.  Its ultra delicate (but sturdy) double chains are an elegant contrast to the generously sized bag (15"/37cm). Loving the metal frame and it actually does not weigh that much; it's a lightweight metal piece that allows the bag to keep its shape.  The double flap with separate compartment is a useful detail for things you have to access immediately.  Simple in design but yummy color-- I'm starting to pay attention to Chloe again, am interested to see if the brand ever picks up its momentum of the early 2000's.  Chloe Sally Bag $1,995 here.

See by Chloe Zip Top Tote

Such a cute tote for the summer except why did they ruin it with the stupid "SBC" cutout on the strap? I hate it when designers ruin a perfectly good bag with something seemingly minor but in fact is a deal breaker. This muted white and cream tote is exactly what I need for the summer. It is also big so I can travel, go to the gym, do all sorts of things with it, even carry all of my tots' junk (currently, my bag is full of My Little Pony crap). I suppose it is not super glaring but still, being that this is See by Chloe and not Chloe, I don't see the point in advertising that fact. Besides, it seems that all the restaurants in LA these days are owned by the SBE group so that's adding to my aggravation since that is what I think of when I see this acronym. Ironically, all the other cutout details are lovable and subtle, especially on the handles. But I will not budge on this, unless they come out with another one without those letters there, I am not getting it. At Net-a-Porter for $840. Great price too, too bad.

The Slouchy Hobo in Python from Carlos Falchi

OMG! Just as I decide that I'm done buying bags this season, Carlos Falchi comes out with a Python Slouch Hobo in an electric blue color that I don't know if I can resist. It has all the elements of the season; an effortlessly slouchy hobo shape, deliciously luxe python skin, all wrapped up in a fabulous bright shade of blue. I'm in love and must have this if it's the last bag I buy this season!!! The ultra luxurious hand painted python is a worthy investment-- you'll be able to use this year after year after year. It's also a very functional tote-- the single strap will keep it from sliding off the shoulder plus two interior pockets and an interior zippered compartment will keep you organized. It's huge at 20" but when I picked it up at Saks last week it didn't look very big-- the slouchy and soft python molds to the body and did I mention it is super lightweight? I believe this is the very first Carlos Falchi bag I have ever wanted so badly! It's made in the USA so I'll be helping the economy and the labor force with this purchase. What better argument can one have for buying a bag? This gorgeous python tote is $3,595 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Jimmy Choo Studded Saba Bag

sabastudscloseup.jpgI guess you've figured out by now that studs are huge this year but it's not a look that everyone can embrace. Sometimes a little bit of a good thing goes a very long way-- like the Jimmy Choo Studded Saba bag. I've always loved the shape of the Saba with the clever little bracelets and now I'm loving the studded version with wrap around studded bands. It's the sophisticated alternative to wearing studs. Just a couple of gun metal gray rows of studs up each side with contrasting suede piping, you get to be on trend without being trendy. This is a timeless option because it won't scream 2009 when you pull it out in 2012. Plus the soft taupe colors is so pretty and neutral, it also softens up the studs. I'm just bummed it's too big (20" wide) for me. But you tall girls, go for it! Jimmy Choo Saba large leather bag $2,295 at Net-a-porter.com

Frugal Snob: Kooba Rio Bag

koobario1.jpgkoobario.jpgkoobario2.jpg If you can only buy one bag this season and would like to go basic with a black tote, this is a great stylish option. There is only so much one can do with a black tote and I have to applaud Kooba for making an interesting design without losing sight of functionality for the user. The Rio Handbag comes in soft, black leather with silver hardware details with geometric shape which I find appealing. If you don't want the hardware, the backside is a gorgeous display of leather with the same geometric style. 2 open pockets, a pen holder, key chain and one zipper pocket on the interior. Priced at $645 which is not cheap but you have to consider the labor costs and the size of this bag (ultra huge which I can't do but try it for yourself and see). Kooba Rio Handbag At Pink Mascara.

More Miu Miu! The Studded Tote

miumiustudwhite.jpgmiumiustudsblack.jpg

I know I know, enough of the studs but this is different from the other stud bags we're coveting of late. This is round button-like studs, so you see-- different! Plus it's only $1,295, almost half the cost of other studded bags right now. It's a gigantic thing at 16"x11" but the exaggerated studs are so huge it'd look bizarre on a little bag. I love the tiny chain details on the handles, so like Miu Miu to put chains where no one else would think of. There is one catch, it's extremely heavy-- I picked it up and almost fell over. So proceed with caution and only if you have strong biceps. At Net-a-porter.com
