Marni Blue Alpaca Fur

marnibluefur1.jpg

I'm sorry, did I say Marni could do no wrong? Apparently it is time for me to eat my words (or my computer). I have no idea what is behind this cookie monster madness of blue fur; creative expression is one thing but this is totally bizarre! Consuelo Castiglioni is known for her quirky funky style but this time she (or her accessories designer) has completely gone off the deep blue end. Check out the details for yourself $2,065 at Brown's fashion.

Tell me what you think (because if any of you finds this appealing, I'm curious to know why!)-- Snob or Slob?

Chanel Misses, the "Candy-Like" and "Tibet"

chanel_candy.jpgchanel_doggie.jpg

Yeah, we all know Chanel can do classic but there is more than one customer out there and they know it. In an attempt to do cute and funky they ended up with child-like and furry. Let's start with the child-like bag which is actually named "Candy-like". Through astute observation, they see that their core shoppers act like kids in a candy store at their boutiques, but they are taking this a little too literally. Observations need to be analyzed and processed not just regurgitated. We act like kids in a candy store but we don't actually want "candy". Even for the sake of the argument, let's say we do - this arm "candy" does not at all function well or is remotely cute. The chain is attached to one corner so it dangles oddly at your side, hanging like a giant Christmas ornament from your wrist, all the while spinning uncontrollably as you walk. When you put it on your shoulder, the pyramid / triangular shape does not conform to a human figure whatsoever and just sits away from you with nowhere for your arm to go. It comes in 2 sizes, the larger is $1295 and is about 12" at the base of the triangle, the smaller is $1150 and is around 8".

Maltese.jpg The other major misstep this season is the "Tibet", which I find offensive to the Tibetans who work so hard for their dignity. What it looks like is a Maltese. It is a classic lambskin flap with what looks like straggles of shearling fringes that were badly injured by a crimping iron. Save the shearlings for my coats, please and spare my bags of superfluous trimmings off random animals. Keep in mind you can get a python classic flap for $3400, this thing is $4995.

I had a moment of nostalgia and browsed around some of our old posts and found some old favorites.  Who knew we'd have anything more to say after over 1,700 entries?!  In the beginning I had no idea how to use the software, I had to send all the text for Kelly to upload for me. Those were fun days when we were figuring all this out! Here are some I thought you'd enjoy,,,  (I won't overload you in one shot, this is a 3 part series)

LV Barf Bucket circa December 2005

The Season's Worst circa March 2006

Pierre Hardy circa April 2006

Invasion of the Giant Bag circa May 2006

Trick or Treat circa October 2006

Jimmy Choo Diane Fringe Tote

Heehaw! Or rather Eeee-Ewww! OK, I get it everyone is doing fringy bags, not sure why but I understand the need to hop on the bandwagon and get one on the shelves, but when you are copying the trend, why not one-up everyone by doing something better? Did they really have to come up with THE absolute worst of the trend? Why the double layer shag? Is it really suppose to look like bangs? And how is this for ridiculous - behind the bangs is a zipper compartment. Uh, I am annoyed just thinking about having to brush away those strips every time I zip and unzip. Maybe the bag comes with a ponytail holder. The overload of studs and grommets takes this from Rock n Roll chic to Hell's Angel atrocity. I don't even think Stella from Project Runway would find this appealing, leath-uh or not. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1495.

Marc by Marc Jacobs: Bow Clutch or Mosquito Trap?

marcjbownet2.jpgmarcjbownet.jpg
Please excuse our slow posts this week, I am in Philly and Kelly is in Martha's Vineyard, we usually do not travel at the same time but this was unavoidable! So, after a day of running around Filthadelphia I feel like I am covered in grime (I love this city and enjoy all the fab restaurants but could do with out the soot). Not in a good mood and came back to hotel to do a bit of work and saw this strange critter of a bag. Since a bow bag is useless in itself, MJ decided to add a mosquito net over it so at least it is functional as a bug trap which would be perfect if you were a street vendor in Phnom Penh (I just read an article about a popular Cambodian snack-- Fried crickets and fried tarantulas and I am still traumatized). Its only saving grace is it's fairly cheap but cheap does not chic make in this case. I know the 80s are back and I do recall wearing a hair bow with net a la Madonna but that memory is best left in 8th grade. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Clutch at Net-a-porter.com $250.

Valentino's Rose Garden: Snob or Slob?

valentinorosegarden.jpgSo this is what Valentino Garavani's been up to since retiring-- tending to his rose garden!?!?  Either that or Alessandra Facchinetti was inspired by the floats of the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, Califonia (the Rose Queen can carry this while cruising on her float!).  I can't think of any other reasons for a flower tote made of multi-colored taffeta rosettes with burgundy patent trim(Kelly did an entry on this in black but the multi hued version is so pinata-clownish I could not resist!). Shoulder straps with rings. I can't even look at this thing for too long because it is actually hypnotizing me.  Try staring at it yourself, you'll find yourself in a hypnotic trance over the swirl upon swirl of hideousness.  $1,950 at Neiman Marcus but wait, it is on back order (do ya think it sold out at first shipment?) so you won't be able to witness its loveliness in person until November.  What do you snobbers think?  Snob or Slob?

Christian Louboutin Cancan Feather Clutch

louboutin_featherclutch.jpg When I created a category for "Feather", Tina asked "Why do we need that?".  So that I can rip on bags like this, that's why!  If she had asked, "Why do bags need feathers?" then the answer would be, they don't.  This looks like something you wear to a Mad Hatter party but on your head.  At least this is appropriately named the Cancan, as if it is supposed to be part of a costume or something.  Can you imagine dealing with those sprigs of feather bobbing around all night and what about trying to get in and out of there?  Well, these concerns are moot because anyone who would use this is not going to be practical.  I guess, as a stand alone piece without function, it is quite interesting and kind of nice.  There is volume and movement that you normally don't get with a bag.  With a simple dress (and I do hope whoever uses this keeps everything else simple), this is a fantastic way to make a bold statement.  At Neiman Marcus for $1215.  Also comes in black with red trim, it is very bad, at least the purple make it more tolerable.

Braccialini Crocodile Possum Porcupine Bag: Snob or Slob?

Hello all, it's another Fug Monday here at Bag Snob.  I don't like Mondays (I am, however, a fan of Thursday-Sunday!) and to top it all off, today is a rainy and muggy hot Monday.  Yuck!  No, I was not at the zoo today nor was I bonding with little animals in the woods.  This is an actual, uh, bag-- made of crocodile skin (what a waste!) from Italian design house Braccialini.  I tried calling their rep in Italy but of course it is August and everyone in Europe takes off for the month so we'll have to wait until September to get the full skinny on this possum.  I imagine it took a lot of labor to cut each strip of crocodile to little tiny points, which by the way, must hurt like hell if carried against your bare skin.  Ouch!  I can't wait to read all of your takes on this strange little creature bag.  Snob or Slob?

fendiwolffishbag.jpg
A bag as horrendously ugly as this need no comment but I just want to know if any of our snob readers would entertain such a bag for $4,330. This is something I can see on a bold Italian woman who says F you to taste and style and enjoys carrying conversation pieces. I had no idea what wolf fish was but just discovered it is in the catfish family. The bag actually reminds me of something or someone but I can't place it yet... but I'm certain it is from one of my son's favorite cartoons. Dior Karenina

Happy fug Monday my darlings! Now don't be scared of the Karenina frame bag from Dior, they won't bite though they are a serious fright. Inspired by high society Russia in Tolstoy's Anna Karenina-- trimmed in gray fox with black leather or blonde fox in camel leather-- the bags are great alternatives for those who have always wanted to tote a dog around à la Paris Hilton but don't want to deal with waste management. The Karenina won't shed on your sofa, is dander free, and won't chew up your Loubies but will still cuddle up to you and keep you warm. Now that, my friend, is the perfect pet. At Dior boutiques worldwide. Dior Handbags also at eLuxury.com
