Jimmy Choo Saba Python Edition

jcsaba.jpgJimmy Choo is learning to stick with a good thing and has updated its ultra popular Saba bag in python for Fall. Slick and sleek, the easy hobo shape is a good investment in black exotic. Python is dressier than plain ol' black leather and at this huge size (19"), it'd double as a travel bag/over nighter (petite girls like me should only use this for travel actually). Women want more than just the latest "it" bag; they want to invest in pieces that will last through the season and have multiple functions for their busy lives. The little bag bracelets are also updated in brushed gold and polished black resin with a very discreet Jimmy Choo logo. I can not rock this look at night but our tall readers can easily go day to night for oversize chic. I know you will think the price expensive but remember it is a very large bag (19"x13") and you are getting a lot of python skin! $4,495 at Net-a-Porter

Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2009 - Rock Goddess

dvf_purpleplisse.jpgdvf_blackwillow.jpg

I know this is coming from a Diane von Furstenberg groupie but I believe I am being objective when I say that this collection was everything I've ever dreamed of. I can pretty much just order everything in my size and call it a day. As DVF put it herself, this collection is "an homage to Diana Vreeland who taught us we could be goddesses and rock stars". And she herself is proof that you can because obviously she is both those things. The look was very carefree, innocent and sweet. And as with all DVF collections, always confident. The look reminds me of Kate Hudson's Penny Lane character in Almost Famous, totally 60's, a bit rebellious but feminine. I loved everything but the two looks that wowed us and had me and Tina hitting each other in excitement during the show were the black plisse wrap dress with the layers of ruffled pleats and the spice purple plisse gown. They are elegant but easy, just the way I like it. You will definitely be seeing us with these dresses as soon as we can get our hands on them, we are contacting the appropriate people about that today!

Back to School Bags for Campus Domination

Jil Sander Ashanti Pocket Tote $1295; Lanvin Padova Sac$2160

I did not have bags as cool as this when I was going to school, but then again we also didn't have wireless internet (yes, that's right, go ahead and make fun of how ancient we are). I didn't think to be very practical so my nice bags couldn't function going to class. Well, you will now benefit from my new found wisdom =) I chose bags that are practical but above all else, totally hip! I kept all the colors dark/patent so that these can wear well after you graduate and can go right into your professional life. These are also big enough for your laptop, if they are under 13" wide (like a MacBook). And all are big enough for notebooks - I never walked around with text books and I doubt they will fit but for your backs' and bags' sake, I would just not read them (just kidding! .... but not really).

My first pick is the Jil Sander Ashanti Pocket Tote. Well, just look at the big outer pocket, I know how you kids love to chew gum and pop breath mints - you gotta keep them handy when the hottie football player comes to chat. It is also has that bit of edge you want to maintain while you're young and full of attitude. Love it! And if you are the fierce fashionista on campus, you MUST have the Lanvin Padova Sac in patent Marine. How fabulous is this? I mean, forget school bag, this bag will rock any girl's wardrobe.

Bottega Veneta San Marco Hobo

bottega_sanmarco.jpg

I know this just looks like a whatever bag in this picture but when you touch and feel it, you will totally melt! It is seriously the SOFTEST leather you will ever glean across your hand. I seriously doubt my baby's bottom is softer than this, not kidding. It is so ultra light, too!!! Also, what you are not seeing are the straps, they are woven crocodile, which explains (kind of) for the $4000 price tag. I know that sounds like a lot for a hobo but this is the kind of bag you make your best friend for life. You will live in this thing (well, it certainly is big enough)! There is a taupey brown that is the new grey for Fall, that is the one I fell in love with - the crocodile straps are in a contrasting dark brown so you get more of a bang for paying for that croc. I am still waffling on this because of the price, I mean, I can get an entire croc for $4000 but of course it won't be a Bottega. Get this at Bottega Veneta online, $4000 or you can also get Bottega Veneta at Net a Porter

Lanvin Gold Metallic Hobo

lanvin_gold
Sorry about the late story, I am having issues with bugs that you do NOT want to know about. Anyhoo, I told you I was in a disco mood - everything gold and shiny is catching my fancy these days. I know the functionality of this bag breaks all my rules, but I love the gold with the black thick ribbon straps. There is something shouting out at me, I mean gold lamé is so "out" that it is "in" (although this is gold leather but has that lamé look), or maybe the round belly of the bag is comforting to me and the glam makes me feel like I can be comfy yet sassy. Again the hobo shape is coming strong for Fall but instead of boho this is glam-ho! Whatever it is, I am loving Lanvin and this bag is so me right now!! At Browns Fashion for $2840.

Tod's Pashmy Snakeskin Bag

UPDATE:$2,340, 16"wx6.5"x14h". Maroon or Black-call Justin at 214-363-6600

pashmysnake.jpg

If it seems I am overdosing in Tod's bags, it's because I am. So yes, I am guilty of being seduced by the elegant old world ads starring Gwyneth Paltrow; but Tod's also has, hands down, one of the strongest bag collections of the Fall 2008 season. I haven't stopped dreaming about the Dokt croc bag but have added more bags to my list including the glistening one above (the dark red is great, I'd prefer it in chocolate but it only comes in this or black right now), and no-- it's not because I blindly covet all bags scaly. It's because the bag is a perfect example of casual and simple chic.

The Pashmy is not a new shape for the House of Tod's but for Fall, it is revitalized in lux snakeskin. As we've been saying, the boho-chic hobo bag is back and Tod's combines it with impeccable detailing and butter soft skin. The handle sits on the shoulder nice and flat which allows the bag to slouch effortlessly against you without tug nor pull. And don't you love all the multi pockets hidden behind the zippers? I do! I am a packrat and always have multiple receipts lurking in my bags along with to-do lists (my brain is deteoriating so I have become a to-do list junkie so I won't forget to do important things such as pick up my son from little gym camp) and notes to myself to remind me to write my to-do lists, etc. Before I forget where I am going with this line of rambling, Pashmy bags are at Tod's Boutiques- call Justin at 214-363-6600. Dautore Handbags Slouchy Hobodautore_slouchside

dautore_slouch_intHaven't you heard? Boho chic is back even though the dwarf twins are no longer in the news (as much). Maybe that's the reason, it's way less tiring this way. OK, so this may not be so bohemian but I am appreciating a good practical hobo, so why not add some fun and interesting details, like the ruching, patent cording swirls on the sides and knotted strap - and they do not get in the way of function but give the bag style and personality. It is also my Cheap Thrill of the week so if you are not totally convinced, at least you won't be needing to take the bus to afford it. And that brings me to the thing that makes "Cheap" the operative word here, the interior's got some funky printed lining that I do not like. Yes, it's bright and colorful but so are clowns, let's just say it is not a sign of refined style. It probably is not so bothersome if you have to just glance at it quickly but you'd be surprised how much you pay attention to the interior of a bag. That is the thing I look at first and is usually a deal breaker for me if I am not fully satisfied with its quality. Hmmm, maybe I should not have featured this bag. Oh well, too late now. Take it for what it is. Besides, there is no science to bag obsession, someone might really be digging the print.

Prada Ruched Hobo

prada_ruchedhobo.jpg

My initial response to this bag was eww but you have to give it a second because it has totally grown on me. It is simply adorable and lovable, like a sharpei. At first glance you want to hate it but then suddenly, all you want to do is hug it! I would love to see this in another color, maybe a plum, but this graphite will certainly suit all your needs for Fall. It is also very functional with a deep shoulder drop (9") on the thick strap and quite roomy with the big round bubble shape. If the ruffles were horizontal, it would be a whole other story because it would look like a skirt you wear for some Latin dancing. I find that Prada has been grasping for a while now but they are again doing bags that make girls want to stop paying rent to get one on their arms. I even think the nylon backpacks are something I want to bring back. They still sell them, always did, but now it is totally retro and it wasn't like backpacks were no longer useful. I am thinking of getting a white one for the summer with all traveling and outdoor activities. And with the nylon you can definitely go white because it cleans up beautifully with just mild soap and a soft cloth. The ruched hobo is $2120, shop Prada at Saks.

Beirn Jenna in Sex and the City

beirn_jenna

I am so super excited about this bag, not only is it in Sex and the City (I'm going to the premier tonight!!!) and is our ultimate Cheap Thrill of the week, it is one of the most fabulous, lightweight and functional bags I have ever seen. Yes, sure it is simple but that beirnsnake.jpgis the beauty of it. It is watersnake with a slight sheen and in this turquoise, it is amazingly chic (it is seen in orange in SATC). You get the exotic look without having to pay a fortune, in fact it is a measly $325!! It comes in 20 different colors but my favorites are this turquoise (which I got) and the natural grey snake (which I am going back to get today because I couldn't decide yesterday and am now feeling much regret having left it behind). I know watersnake is no python but it is super light and thin, the bag weights 2 oz, no exaggerations. The way it is constructed is incredibly smart and makes up for the thin skin. The handles are not sewn in at the top, it wraps around the entire bag so it is very sturdy. I love the teardrop shape of the bag, it is a good size at 13" X 17" so you can fill it up nicely without bulging it. I really can't get enough of this bag, my girlfriends in the city are all going to Henri Bendel for it today so call them before they sell out, 212.247.1100. You can see all the Beirn bags from this mother-daughter team on their website.

Anya Hindmarch Oakley, Goyard Saint Louis, Pierre Hardy, YSL Downtown

Dear Bag Snob,

I have been looking for a big bag suitable to be used as a diaper bag for almost 4 years now (my oldest is almost 4 and second baby just turned 1). I am looking for something that is light (not heavy) in a spring color and big to carry all my baby items. I know you are not a fan of the Goyard bags, but they look like they could be used as handy diaper bags. I am referring to the Saint Louis bags. What do you think? Do you think they're worth what they cost?

Thank you!

Love,
Stephany
