Dior Karenina

$4750 for small size (10x11") $5650 for medium size (11x12")
diorkarenina.jpgdiorkarenina2.jpg
Happy fug Monday my darlings! Now don't be scared of the Karenina frame bag from Dior, they won't bite though they are a serious fright. Inspired by high society Russia in Tolstoy's Anna Karenina-- trimmed in gray fox with black leather or blonde fox in camel leather-- the bags are great alternatives for those who have always wanted to tote a dog around à la Paris Hilton but don't want to deal with waste management. The Karenina won't shed on your sofa, is dander free, and won't chew up your Loubies but will still cuddle up to you and keep you warm. Now that, my friend, is the perfect pet. At Dior boutiques worldwide. Dior Handbags also at eLuxury.com

Chanel Mademoiselle

Left Bag: $3495 Right Bag: $3850
Many of you asked me about the Mademoiselle group of bags from the Chanel Paris-London collection after I posted my Paris splurge and I am just following up. Unfortunately my purple bowler bag with petite matelasse is not available in the US-- my friend Melinda has been on a relentless hunt for it and I had to break the bad news for her last weekend. I did offer her a solution, fly to Paris and pick it up in person and enjoy a nice vacation! Though I am fairly certain Jessica from the Paris boutique will send it to her, it would make for a better story if she actually flew out herself, don't you think? The entire group is fabulous in glazed calfskin but I especially love the petite matelasse, it's a fresh and young version of the classic Chanel quilt, I am certain Mademoiselle Chanel herself would approve. Call Alexis at the Chanel boutique if you are interested in any of the above bags. 214-520-1055 Photos courtesy of Chanel USA

Ferragamo Frame Python Satchel

ferragamo_python_frame.jpg

I cannot believe this is a Ferragamo because honestly, I am quite frightened by the rest of their bags for Fall. Without these details, this is just a generic frame but we all know it is all in the details - like the interwoven patent leather in the straps and the lucite clasp. Of course the most important detail is the python, an extremely lush quality python at that. All of which make this a very cool bag, so much so that I am seriously moved to buy. The best part is that for a python at this quality, it is pretty reasonable at $3150 - a very worthy investment. The rounded bubble shape is fresh and makes for a very roomy bag. The frame opens wide for easy access, which is always a huge consideration when buying a frame. The long strap makes it easy to go over the shoulder although for something like this you normally hold it in your hand. The bag is big enough, 15" x 12", for the long straps to look OK even if you do hold it in your hand. By far the best Ferragamo I've seen. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $3150.

What I Want for Mother's Day

lindytan_sm.jpgbottega_tri_pink.jpgzagliani_puffypython.jpgsmythoson_brushroll.jpg

OK, so this is not the most subtle hint but what the hell, I am just trying to be practical and maybe help out those thoughtful and considerate husbands who read our site to get gift ideas for their lucky wives. Any one of these would be an AWESOME Mother's Day gift but all of them would be a dream come true. For a real surprise, the Hermes Lindy would do the trick. If you have been in the dog house, this will get you out. $5,600 Craig at Hermes, 214-528-0197. Any practical mom can use the Bottega Veneta Tri Compartment ($2780) and in pink, it is sure to delight! The Zagliani Puffy Python Satchel ($3100), has been on my list of must haves for a while now. The puffy shape makes it young and easy to wear everyday and the silicone injected python makes the skin luscious! For the bag and beauty snob, Smythson's Beauty Roll ($510) in Azure is not only beautiful but quite useful! All the mink and sable brushes are included. You are getting a deal here for this one. Be good to your mother's. Sure it's the thought that counts and a hug is the best gift in the world, but come on! This is the real world and we expect nice gifts!!! =)

YSL Marjorelle $1395, Lanvin Python Pochette $1830
Bottega Venta $2780, Miu Miu Matelasse $1590

Are you ready for summer? Well, first things first, you gotta get your white bags on! Here are our favorite bags in white for the summer. And who says you can't wear white after Labor Day? Total non-sense, especially when we are talking about fabulous classic bags that are appropriate for all seasons and occasions. The YSL Marjorelle has become one of my favorite bags this season (I have the blue but now am wishing I had waited for this white!!). The Lanvin pochette in python is a steal for $1830 and is the perfect bag for your tiny summer dresses or even a hot evening out with a tropical cocktail, umbrella and all. For the practical gals, the tri-compartment Bottega Veneta breezes from work to weekends. And if you are in between hip and pragmatic, the Miu Miu is genius for all events in your life. It has stood the test of time so even though it is a trend bag, you will be able to use it for many seasons to come. Like with everything else, before anything can get started, you must first have the perfect bag!

By the way, the Lanvin and Miu Miu is 40% off at Barneys Dallas for one day only! Call Pam or Cory at 469-221-4807

Bottega Veneta Crocodile Frame

bottega_framecroc.png

I went to the Bottega Veneta trunk show to preview their Fall 2008 bags, but it was this spring/summer crocodile frame bag that had my full attention. This picture is criminal in its injustice; the actual bag is so spectacular that it really puts everything else to shame. The shape is lady-like and a total classic that will outlive anything, but it is also very updated and modern. It is wide at the bottom and has one big loose gather on each side. This is a frame bag, but not any typical frame. It has 6 hinges, so the bag opens up bottega_bwcolorcroc.pngentirely (the opening becomes a big hexagon that allows you to access the whole interior). It is really easy to open and close and has a beautiful fold-over clasp closure. I am not crazy about this ash color shown here. The one I am eyeing is white with charcoal grey shadow, like the bag on the left (that bag is also great, but it is a messenger so too casual for a croc). This bag will be used year round. The white, of course, is the most amazing thing you can imagine for summer, but how fabulous would it be with a grey sweater and black pants for fall? Oh dear god, I really want this bag really, really badly. The catch, of course, is the price. It is $16,800, which is decent for a croc of this caliber, but I need a plan!! Call Katherine at Bottega Veneta in Beverly Hills at (310) 858-6533 to inquire. $16,800.

Bruno Frisoni Patent Frame

brunofrisoni_patentframe.png

I am a huge fan of Bruno Frisoni shoes, and it looks like the love has spread to bags as well. (I am hunting down these peep toes with the thick slingback in my size, ultra brunofrisoni_slingback.pngcomfy and oh-so-lovely!) So, I saw this taupey-grey patent frame at Fred Segal yesterday and was so mesmerized by how different it is--and bursting with style and character! I love the red frame contrast; it sets off the bag perfectly! This also comes in a turquoise with red frame, but that color combination is almost too cartoonish and totally unusable. With this bag, you can wear the most boring plain thing and still be caught turning heads left and right. The straps are long enough to fit comfortably under the arm (it fits under mine, so will fit under most) which brunofrisoni_int.pngis good because you need to distribute the weight of this bag. I am so spoiled by light bags that I now have a hard time with anything that weighs more than a feather. This bag has a gorgeous silver metallic lining. It is always delightful to find the inside of the bag as nice as the outside, but with a leather lining, you pay for it, with your muscle and moola. This bag is a bit pricey for what it is at $1995, but is selling like crazy. Girls who suffer for fashion will find this one is totally worth it!! Call Fred Segal Santa Monica, 310-394-9814--there are only a couple left.

Marni Green Patent Shoulder Bag

Don't take yourself too seriously. What's the fun of life if you can't enjoy a fun and happy Marni bag? This bag is perfect for those days when the weight of world is about to crush you but it doesn't because you are uplifted when you look at your bag. The cool strange shape, the patent leather in vibrant green and the black bar frame (straps pull through it) make this bag intriguing and ultimately chic! And of course there is the signature natural leather strap that rounds out the bag for that bit of sophistication (but never too much!) I feel like I need to have this bag just to remind myself that fashion is about how it makes me feel, not the status of it or how much it is. And this Marni just make me smile =) Maybe I am feeling stressed lately, but this is my therapy right here, being able to ramble on about a bag I am passionate about. How great is that? At Net a Porter for $1265.

Marni Tinsel Bag

I saw this bag a few days ago and I really hated it, I thought it was too strange looking but then I saw it again today and I had a total change of heart. Sometimes my conservative side get the best of me and I shut out things that are out of the ordinary. That is why this bag is so supremely chic, it is different and fun (because it is a Marni and yes, there is a bit of an obsession with Marni this week). It is a medium size bag (14.5" x 11") so this is not your evening tiny pouch, which makes it a plus because sometimes you still need a normal size bag in the evening and your choices become limited. It is a bit too hip to get all traditional black tie on it but this would be great fun with an outfit you want to dress up. The drop of the handles aren't meant for it to go on the shoulder but even if you can, I would not recommend it. The tinsel is quite itchy - they really do stick out and are all over the place. At Net a Porter for $1250.
