Marc Jacobs Lacks Creativity

| Leave Comment

marcjacobslayers2.jpgunitstunic.jpg

I will start off by saying, the entire collection is not so bad but I have a huge problem with a few things that came down the runway. First of all, this layered mess reminds me of those mall stores in the 80's called Units, you know the solid color "modular" one size fits all knits that you mix and match in layers to create your own style and you wear the whole thing over black leggings. This picture is not a good representation of the kind of crazy tank dress over short sleeve T over long sleeve T - all in different colors - with yet another color sash that you tie all around you with a big knot, that was all the rage. If you don't remember, thank Marc for bringing it back.

This ruffled tunic is super cute, only one problem - Phillip Lim already did it last season. Sorry, Marc. I was only kidding when I said you were going to cringe with insecurity seeing Phillip Lim's line, I didn't actually think you were already knocking off his stuff. Shame shame.

Oscar de la Renta

As my Bag Snob partner stated, Fashion Week is exhausting! But SO much fun and a good excuse for imbibing a large amount of champagne and buying everything at Barneys. We caught up with old friends and made new ones, saw a couple of shows and also had a few celeb sightings that we'll be dishing about later. According to the Wallstreet Journal, we were one of only 40 bloggers who were accredited with a press pass from IMG, the company that runs Fashion Week (thanks Andrew!) and extended invitations to the shows. Lesley Scott from Fashiontribes (the mother of all blogs!) even scored a seat in the forth row at some shows! Maybe next season they'll seat us next to Anna Wintour :) But on to the important stuff. More spring '07 fashion! Oscar de la Renta, the king of low key elegance, showed another strong collection full of floral prints and bold colors. This is a younger collection than what we're used to seeing from Oscar with higher hemlines and youthful silhouettes but still filled with his mainstay evening gowns that socialites and movie stars love.

3.1 Phillip Lim

In this highly anticipated and much talked about 2nd season for 3.1, Phillip Lim takes down 7th Ave with a collection that will make Marc Jacobs cringe with insecurity. Well, there were few glitches and tardiness but hey, it's show biz. I worked runway shows before in a past life, and it is never easy (Naomi Campbell claimed the tents were too cold and refused to go to makeup; Tatiana Patitz eats it on the runway when her roman style strappy sandals come undone and the rest of the models wouldn't go after her). But all that is irrelevant cuz I'm telling you, this guy is taking over! His Spring collection is mostly white and very simple, but the cut, fabric and just the right amount of detailing makes every piece wearable on a daily basis yet fit to be a collectors item. Now, who else can you say that about? This is what we all look for when we build our wardrobe, polished yet wearable, and as simple as that sounds it is nearly impossible to get it right, but ladies, here it is. I own several of his dresses including a little white strapless from Net-a-Porter that I wore everywhere ALL summer. His spring '07 line was crisp and refreshing and so easy, I know what I'll be wearing next summer.

Carolina Herrera Spring '07

Fresh off the runway is Carolina Herrera's gorgeous spring collection from this morning. Now here is a woman who oozes taste and style, she couldn't be tacky if she tried. Carolina Herrera is one of my all time favorites because everything she designs is so flattering and feminine! Her collection was once again filled with elegant stylish dresses, I especially love the little red silk dress with detachable shaw, I can just see myself dazzling Stella Bennet and my fashionista girlfriends in it! (come on, you know you dress for your girlfriends and not your boyfriend or hubby cuz what the hell do they know) You just feel good when you are well dressed and you will ALWAYS be well dressed in Carolina Herrera.

Fashion Week Update

I am completely exhausted from Fashion Week, shopping (my legs, feet and credit cards no longer work), eating (Blue Ribbon Sushi, yum!!) and partying (let's just say vodka was had and it is not leaving my body) in NYC but I wanted to do a quick update on what we're seeing that's making us want to spend more money. More to come later in the week when the headliners show.

No need for any review here, size 6 please and here is my credit card. Diane is a staple in my life.

58th Emmy Awards

I really didn't understand the awards that were given out. I've never even heard of most of the shows and none of the shows I watch won! And Charlie Sheen was nominated??? For what, the biggest loser of the year? And Amazing Race beat out Project Runway? Amazing Race is the dumbest show, I don't know why people bother watching it. At least The Daily Show won so someone was paying attention. Whatever, we only watch awards shows for the fashion anyways so let's move on to that. We have decided to give away our own awards to make up for the equally random awards that were given out at the Emmys.

The I'm Fighting With My Hair Dresser Award
allisonjanney.jpgellenpompeo.jpgevalongoria.jpgcalistaflockhart.jpg
Uh... was there a hair stylist strike I didn't know about? Allison Janney usually looks incredible but this hair of hers was god awful. If anyone needs volume it would be Ellen Pompeo. Did she get a perm, realized fuzzy was bad so at the last minute decided to slick it back as a salvaging measure? Both Eva Longoria and Calista Flockhart did the totally 80's half Farrah Fawcett tie back, which was just as unsavory back then. And speaking of Farrah Fawcett, someone should have been monitoring her drinking (among other things) in the green room.

Bag Snob is a Trend Snob

We don't know why we even bother reading Elle, Vogue or Style.com anymore. They feature bags MONTHS after the Bag Snob has already given it's nod of approval. We featured the Chloe Edith in January (only hours after it's appearance on the runway) and predicted its popularity but Elle didn't feature it until their March issue. Pierre Hardy excited us back in April but by the time the magazines featured it in June, we were over it. Gryson bags flew out of Bergdorf Goodman after we featured it two months ago in June, Style.com finally noticed it on Aug. 14.

My point is, why bother reading any other fashion magazines or websites when the Bag Snob gives it to you FIRST! And why wait two months for magazines to publish the latest fashion trends from runways when we pick the best of the season within DAYS of the shows.

We're fabulous, we know ;)

The Return of Beauty

linda evangelista.jpglinda.jpg

Apparently editors at Vogue heard our raving complaints about teenage hobags on magazine covers and decided to bring gorgeous supermodels back to their rightful place. We are so thrilled to see Linda (botox and all) and friends back in the glossy pages of Vogue. Enough of the current crop of bland models with empty stares, we want to look at fabulous clothes worn by beautiful glamazons! I mean fashion is all about fantasy and who would you rather look at? Nicole Bitchie with her scuzzy scrawny body or the bodacious curves of Cindy Crawford? Viva Beauty!!!

Win the Chloe Edith

edithwhiskey.jpg
Now I feel kind of stingy about our contest to win a bag hanger when Fab Sugar is giving away a Chloe Edith. To win, you have to write a story about your day with the bag so it's a lot more work than our contest, but hey, like they say, you get what you pay for. When Bag Snob gets big enough, we are going to give away a Birkin - that's a promise. But first, we need to get the word out. Luckily, we went to a seminar this week in NYC to learn how Kate Spade and Bobbi Brown got so big. We wanted to ask Kate how she gets people to buy her cheap ugly bags but they never called on us (maybe they read the London Times about how we're brutal and rude). Anyways, I'm rambling. Go and sign up to win the Edith because that is a fantastic prize!!

Gwen the Glamour Mom

gwenopt1.jpgguccibabysling.jpg

We expected nothing less of Gwen Stefani than to be an uber stylish mom. She probably doesn't even know what a Baby Bjorn is (either does Danny Moder who uses it as a manbag) but instead opts for the Gucci baby carrier that comes in the beige or black GG for $760. We love the moms who remind us that being a mommy doesn't mean you have to live in Crayola technicolor hell. And it definitely helps now that having babies is so hip with celebrities the designers are making good stuff to accommodate the put-together moms!
