Video: Oscar de la Renta Spring 2010

We were invited to Oscar de la Renta's showroom and studio the day BEFORE the Spring 2010 show to preview the new bags and collection. Oscar himself explained the new bag collection to us! Seriously!?!? It was the highlight of our entire week! Especially when we were told that the only people that had been allowed the sneak peek were Anna Wintour and Cathy Horyn of the NY Times. We felt warm and fuzzy all over and tried our best to stay out of the way while we watched Oscar and his team work on the final fittings. Everyone was so calm, but I guess with Oscar at the helm and in the studio daily there is no chance of anything going wrong.  We just got home and will have the complete review of the new bags up soon (you will see them in the video-- the best bag collection ever from Oscar!).  Oscar also agreed to a Virtual Personal Appearance on Bagsnob soon so you'll be able to chat with him directly-- stay tuned!  (Jump for part 2 of video and more pictures).

Bally Bohemian Floral Hobo: Snob or Slob?

ballyfloralbag.jpg
I have been eyeing Bally bags for a year now and am quite impressed with Brian Atwood's efforts thus far.  I am even swayed by this floral hobo... a bit.  It's not really my style but I see the appeal in the beautifully embroidered flowers and the gorgeous colors for a boho chic girl.  This could have been really tacky but Bally really pulled off the look without offending the senses.  Even the price is fairly reasonable at $1,173 considering the handiwork!

It's a large suede hobo which is usually best in Fall but the spring flowers will allow you to rock this all year long.

I saw Bally everywhere in London and Paris on the arms of the nonchalantly chic.  I'd love to carry this with a whispery white summer dress. See BALLY - FLORAL EMBROIDERED HOBO SHOULDER BAG here.

What do you think?  Snob or Slob?

Christian Louboutin Geneva Braided Tote

I am becoming quite the fawning fan of Louboutin bags now that he is putting his magical touches on them. The simple but bold design is truly original, it is braided on one side and perforated dots on the other side! It is not heavy handed or gimmicky in any way, it's feminine, distinctive and functional on top of it! The 2 loose pockets on the ends are incredibly useful and the wide band strap will stay on and be comfortable. There is nothing more chic than a simple design that has just enough of oomph. The nude is THE color of the season, unless of course you are into 80's neon, then street sign yellow is for you, but this bag in the nude is perfect for showing off the details. At Luisaviaroma for $1230. Pretty reasonable considering his shoes are around the same price.

Marc Jacobs Escapes to Madagascar!

Let me put this delicately, even if this was the last bag on earth and free, I wouldn't carry it. I can't imagine what went through MJ's mind when he designed/approved of this awful thing (well, I can imagine but I'm not going to say it). I tried to make the photos as small as possible as to not frighten you with a nightmare before Christmas but it was necessary to show all the gruesome details of this ghastly bag. mjmadascar.jpgTo make matters worse, it appears the entire cast of Escape to Madagascar were used for the bag (I adore that movie-- I like to move it move it!). The poor animals-- had they known this would happen they would have stayed in the NYC Zoo! I can't even tell how you're supposed to open the bag, or perhaps the bag is merely decorative!?!?! Will have to request sample to investigate further but we are not the most popular people at Marc Jacobs. Such a shame because I'd love to sit with him and just watch him at work. Then I can explain the madness genius to you all. MARC JACOBS - LAYERED SAHARA TOP HANDLE 1,749.00 EUR/2,438.33 USD at Luisa Via Roma.

Enough of what I think, what say you my lovelies? Snob or Slob?

Bea Valdes for Couture Lab

beavaldes4.jpg beavaldes2.jpg

We'd like to take a moment and introduce you to our newest advertiser, Couture Lab. It is the brainchild of one of the original founders of Net-a-Porter, Carmen Busquets. Couture Lab offers one of a kind, offbeat items that transcends time and trend. The site is not intended to please the masses, but rather, for the few who crave items that will tantalize and thrill. Like the Bea Valdes clutches made especially for Couture Lab. beavaldes3.jpgI am obsessed with the Marharlika evening bag. If it were any bigger, it would be garish but in a tiny size-- it's a glittering jewel of a bag. The beaded details are lavish but appropriate for an evening bag and the little tiny feathers add whimsy and fantasy. I am not one to love such embellished bags but these are so uniquely ornate that I couldn't help but admire the imagination and creativity it took to create.

YSL Embroidered Canvas Downtown

It looks like both Tina and I need therapy. Either that or YSL is seriously paying us some big bucks to gush non stop about them (people at YSL, please email us if this sounds like something you would be interested in). Well, neither of us have discipline when it comes to YSL because I just bought the Marjorelle in blue patent, it is a different blue than the Muse blue but it is so bright and beautiful!! I love it!! Then I saw this picture of this embroidered Downtown on Elle.com and immediately picked up the phone to call my girl at the YSL boutique. It is so fun for Spring, I started fantasizing about how great would it be for the beach and for traveling!! Uh, turns out this is the mini version of the downtown, as in, it is in total, 6 inches tall (just slightly bigger than this actual picture). Useless you say? Not for my 3 year old daughter who would think it's cool for about a day. Seriously, what is the meaning of this? I was told it was only done in that size and none of the buyers bought it so it will not be made. Gee, what a surprise. Just when we thought YSL could do no wrong. Well, just the merchandising was off, I would have totally gotten this in the medium Downtown, if it was about $875 (because it is canvas). Maybe instead of giving us money, they can hire us to merchandise for them.
