Uma Thurman's Nina Ricci: Snob or Slob?

It seems that most of you weren't all that into the Fall 2009 Nina Ricci bag collection and I don't blame you! The Nina Ricci Agneau Pleated Besace Bag ($2,750) makes Uma Thurman look so frumpy! If I didn't know better I'd think the bag was a wannabe Chanel 2.55 vintage find. The part-chain shoulder strap looks so stumpy and the whole bag strikes me as somewhat cheesy and uninspired.

Lindsay Lohan's JJ Winters Bag: Snob or Slob?

Above the infamous Lindsay Lohan wears JJ Winters' Joyce Black Suede Bag ($459). I feel like bag lovers are split between those that are pro fringe/studs and those against them. I went to Bendel's the other day and literally the whole front section is full of all things studs and I have to say I'm still tempted by them! Lohan's bag has a nice shape and I like the fringe and stud detailing, my problem with this bag lies with the gold rings on the top where the straps emanate from -- they cheapen the whole bag! Do you agree? What do you think about the Joice Black Suede Bag?

Beyonce's Dior Bag: Snob or Slob?

Above Beyonce is pictured in the Dior Samourai 1947 Woven Frame Bag. This crazy looking concoction retails for $4,200! Every time I see this bag I think of that Food TV show 'Ace of Cakes'...this Dior doesn't look like a real purse to me; it looks way more like one of those tacky purse-shaped cakes! I mean is there a better display of overkill? Between the fuchsia color, the twisted trim, the Louix XVI-style picture frame Dior tag, the rings, and serpents the only thing that's more over-the-top than this bag is Beyonce's polka dot jumper!

Shania Twain's Goyard 'St Louis' Tote: Snob or Slob?

I just don't understand the appeal of Goyard. Seriously I'm hoping to be enlightened by some Goyard fans in the comments section! I know these bags are functional, but I don't get their aesthetic appeal (especially given their prices). They look like something I should do my eco-conscious grocery shopping with. The detachable pouch is a useful touch I admit, but there's something so teeny bopper about it.

Cameron Diaz's Bottega Veneta Montaigne -- Uluru

Love the color of Cameron Diaz's Bottega Veneta Montaigne! She's toting around the Uluru version of the duffle-shaped classic from the line's fall 2009 collection ($2,280). It's truly the perfect size for an unobtrusive everyday bag. I know that for a lot of people bag weight is an issue and this style is utterly light -- we all know there's nothing quite like the supple leather of a Bottega bag!

Mary-Kate's Marni handbag: Snob or Slob?

marykate marni.jpgI'm on the fence about Marni. I've always thought everything from their clothes to their bags was "eh." Yes for the most part most of the pieces are perfectly nice, but every time I see something from Marni I think I must be able to find something just a tiny bit better  (especially at Bergdorf where McCartney, McQueen, The Row, and Balmain are all located on the same floor!). On the left Mary-Kate Olsen is pictured in a bag that screams Marni -- ie it has a print and it's colorful, yet there's something under-stated and restrained about it. I like the design -- it's almost a bit Pucci-esque and the brown leather is a nice contrast though I don't like that round handle (doesn't it look uncomfortable? I wonder if that's why MK is carrying it over her sweater!). This does seem like a bag that could transcend generations --  I could totally see this as being a bag that a mother buys to wear with a solid black dress and her daughter borrows to wear with a Missoni-esque dress like MK!), but overall because of the handles and the shapes, I have to vote slob.

LC Marc by Marc Jacobs Satchel: Snob or Slob?

In my life I've only owned one Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and it was way back in High School. It was this off white handbag with little cupcakes sewn on the bottom and a handful of cute pins (one of which was an "MJ" pin and I still remember my little brother saying to me "MJ? Like Michael Jackson!?" Similarly he inquired if the"CD" on my Dior Saddle Bag was for Celine Dion..ahh memories!). The bag was clearly a perfect fit for my 16 year old self. Fast forward 10 years later however and my feeling on the line still hasn't really changed. For the most part the only bags in the line I like don't fit my age demo anymore and the others just seem kind of boring! Above LC is toting the Marc By Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Groovee Satchel ($498). I do think the price point is pretty good (it's leather), and it does look like it would be easy to find things in it given the size, shape, and the inside pockets, it's just too plain Jane for my taste.

Givenchy Nightingale: Who Wore it Best?

I LOVE, love, love the Givenchy Nightingale. After drooling over it every time I walked into Barney's (a slew of them are displayed at the entrance to the NY store), I finally splurged on the Medium Croc in Brown. This is my second Givenchy bag purchase and while the quality, quite honestly, is not the best (the other model I have is one the was not sold in the US -- got it while I was in Paris last year and in less than one month the inner lining started peeling! It wasn't even leather!), I'm turning a blind eye to the fact that my Nightingale similarly has developed a crinkle line given how slouchy it is if you don't stuff it with something when it sits in your closet. Unfortunate quality issues aside the bag is so chic it's little surprise that it has become a celeb fave. I have a feeling this won't be a fad bag a la Fendi Baguette, but rather a classic. I think Ashley Olsen rocks it with her cut-offs! Who do you think pulls off the bag best? Vote in our poll!

Rachel Bilson's Miu Miu: Snob or Slob?

r bilson.png

I'm going to preface this by saying that most of my favorite bags are Miu Miu. Hermes might be the holy grail for most, but I'd take a Miu Miu over an Hermes any day (except for the Medor clutch with collier de chien hardware..oo how I drool over anything collier de chien!). Rachel Bilson is pictured on the left in Miu Miu's Ruched Bag in red. Ruched bags have definitely become a Miu Miu signature and I know that some may find this bag overkill, but I'm absolutely loving it. It's so fun and different without being tacky and the gold hardware is done very tastefully. It's not the easiest bag style to pull-off given the loud colors and bold design (I actually prefer the brown version of this bag), but Bilson pulls it off wonderfully with her all-black, casual outfit.

Alex Curran's Christian Louboutin Pillow Satchel: Snob or Slob?

curran 1.jpg

Model Alex Curran was snapped with Christian Louboutin's Pillow Medium Softy Satchel ($1,995). I'm not a huge fan of Christian Louboutin's bags -- I can't get over his cheap-looking satin clutches with their heel-shaped closures..eck! Unfortunately this bag isn't much better. It looks like a bad imitation of the utterly covetable Donna Karan Large Gotham Tote. The diagonal zippers and pleating, the pendant, the lunchbox shape of the bag -- it's all just too much. Visually the bag is also somewhat headache-inducing with all the diagonal lines. There's nothing fun or spontaneous about it. It does look like it would make for a nice cushion-y pillow if we could somehow get rid of the zippers!
