The obsession with Lanvin will not end. Not as long as they keep surprising us with new incarnations of the things we love. The subtle but distinct detailing of Lanvin, like the strap and hardware detail here (similar to the Kentucky that we love love love) gives this highly functional but generic shape a beauty lift. And not only is the strap in a contrasting leather, it is patent and adjustable. It is lined in Lanvin jacard fabric which is good because it makes it much lighter. There are 2 organizational pockets inside that are a must have for a big bag like this and of course the side zip pocket. I have always complained that Lanvin bags are not the most user friendly, the chains are great looking but get kinked up (and we've heard of many breakages) and the pochettes are nearly impossible to get in and out of. But they have pulled out all the stops here (and maybe have been reading Bag Snob!) and made the perfect bag. This is definitely one of those bags you only need to buy one of and keep using it until you buy another next year, in a new color. It is $1,855 at Barneys and I hear they are going to have a 40% OFF the entire store sale, one day only. Keep your ears peeled - you do not want to let this one pass you by!

There are the die hards who will never give up their collection of LV bags and who will buy whatever the brand serves up. The former fans (like myself) who will keep their set of vintage luggage from the '70s and the LV bags collected throughout the years but will not invest any more time or money on the trendy bags of late. And then there are those who consider its recent collaborations with Marc Jacobs as the whoring out of the classic label and brand. Which one are you? Let me know because I am off to a Blogger Breakfast with Louis Vuitton's CEO of North America. (Thanks to Lesley of Fashiontribes for the introduction!) I am very interested in what he has to say about the brand and how it will continue its exclusive appeal considering it's mass global campaign. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Just got back from the breakfast. It was an eye opener to say the least. (Read more after the jump!)
I am most impressed with Louis Vuitton's CEO of North America, Daniel Lalonde and Senior Vice President of Marketing Heather Vandenberghe for taking initiative to reach out to the blogging community. I was impressed, but not surprised. Considering the staggering number of people fashion blogs reach globally, it is a very wise move on their part to begin the dialogue and mutual support with blogs.

There were about 15 bloggers present and it was sort of a round table where we each took turns communicating our ideas. We covered so many things in that hour but I will try to recap it for you. First, don't think LV is not listening to its consumers, both Daniel and Heather read every comment sent to the LV website through customer service (and both will probably read your comments so please keep it constructive).

The LV team was most interested in what we had to say about reaching out to consumers via the blogs and want to actively participate in the process. LV sees this as an opportunity to provide us with behind the scenes information on the brand and giving you exclusive stories about the bags.

We discussed fake bags and it is still a major concern for them, one that they address aggressively. While you may be tempted by eBay and other unauthorized outlets, the only safe bet to ensure the authenticity of your LV bag is to purchase at an LV boutique.

Daniel also explained the recent marketing efforts to bring the brand back to the classic damier and monogram its been known for since 1854. They feel they have had much success with the 'fashion' branding through Marc Jacobs in the last ten years but are ready to go back to the basics via the core value campaign and recapturing their former fans.

My LV collection consists of classic damier, monogram and Epi leather bags, and the only LV bag that has tempted me of late is the fabulous Mahina in silver. Of course there is also the well worn set of LV luggage given to me years ago, it is still one of the most beloved items in my collection. The three nested suitcases, hat box, and vanity case have treasured memories attached with them that will last beyond my lifetime.

I have to admit I am thinking about the Mahina in xs... a lot. It is just the jolt of excitement my old LV collection needs.

New York native Monica Botkier is an ex-fashion photographer with a keen eye for details. I have often admired her bags at stores, not only for its urban appeal but the price point. It would not be far fetched for me to say that she is one of the best brands in the under $500 market and her bags are made of good quality Italian leather, not canvas. I saw the St. Tropez the other day and liked the way she expanded the top handle so that you can actually slip it over your arm, not merely clutch it. Most Botkier bags depend on creative design and are not burdened down with heavy hardware, which is the case with the St. Tropez satchel. I am loving the gold version, which really shows off the streamlines of the bag. The beauty of the St. Tropez is in its simplicity, with this on your arm you're chic no matter what outfit or hour. $495 at Neiman Marcus

We filmed for almost 10 hours yesterday. Wearing Louboutins for that length of time is taxing to the feet to say the least. LOL. I am only going to tell you about one of our guests, her friends call her "Dee-ahn", her staff calls her DVF, her fans simply call her Diane. Yup, the legendary designer and princess, Diane von Furstenberg! She was the most lovely woman. She swept up to me and said "Are you Tina the Bag Girl? I have heard so much about you!" and then showered me with kisses. She then turned to Kelly and did same. She is so regal and has the most amazing energy! Talk about aging gracefully; DVF is beautiful, natural, and ageless! I even got a tour of her apartment above her studio, I want to move in! Can't wait to start another day of filming!

Tod's is having a once in a lifetime sale, 40% off of everything in the Spring collection!! I guess the bad economy is affecting all of us - we can now enjoy massive savings!! =) I have been wanting the softy tote all season, they come in amazing spring colors and I am getting the light teal. I have been waiting for it to go on sale but I never expected 40% off!! It is so soft, like a big pillow, and is uber comfy and easy to use. I got the matching driving moccasins which makes for the ultimate duo for suburbia life (city life, I pay full price for!). This is a private sale for their loyal customers but call Carla at the Beverly Hills boutique at 310-285-0591, tell her Kelly Cook from Bag Snob sent you and she will let you have whatever you want! The private sale is May 15-17, after that the sale opens to everyone, but by then all the good stuff will have sold out, especially if you want shoes.

There are those days we all need to be proper and ladylike - what can be more appropriate for that than this Nancy Gonzalez croc and python bag? It is eternally classic but the gold metallic python trim certainly spices things up a bit. The much needed pleating and the ruched python band definitely updates an otherwise traditional shape. I saw this bag on someone (at the Barneys Christian Louboutin personal appearance, everyone there had fabulous bags!) and immediately jumped her to get all the info on it. She had it in chocolate but I love the silver to make it a bit less serious, brown croc is the ultimate classic color for croc but it does make it kind of old lady-ish. And I don't ever like black croc because you can't see the detail in the skin. Of course, the best thing about Nancy Gonzalez is the fantastic price point. It is $3650 (for a mostly croc bag!!) at Bergdorf Goodman.

Paris based Green/Cypriot designer, Erotokritos, is just the breath of fresh air I've been looking for in Cheap Thrills! Check out his line of funky wrinkled patent-leather bags with zipper pocket at front and knotted strap detail at sides. This is what young and hip Bag Snobs should be toting around the city! Your early 20's are the time of self expression and individual style (not that there is anything wrong with high end designer bags)-- tote this on your arm and instead of hearing-- "oh I have that bag" you'll hear "where did you get that bag!?!?"
The bright blue metallic version is extra cheeky and will guarantee you lots of attention! I like how he uses rolled leather as anchors to keep the bag's shape. It looks really square in the photos because they stuffed it full, it actually flattens out when you carry it under your arm. Now it won't pass muster with our seasoned Bag Snobs but hey, the young'uns gotta start somewhere! I also love his line of casually hip clothes, especially this adorable little blue sweater-- how sweet will that be with white jeans (I should mention I have a sick white pants obsession)? We just arrived in New York City (well, I arrived at 2pm but headed straight for the Oscar de la Renta boutique and Barneys!) and will start filming tomorrow AM with a very fabulous style icon and a bag designer everyone is panting for. I am not going to tell you who they are, it will be more fun when you watch it yourself. You'll never guess because neither have been profiled on our site before :) Anyway, please forgive us if this week's posts are a bit slow. We have grueling film schedules, 7am calls til the sun goes down! But we are filming with half a dozen of our favorite designers so it won't be like work, it will be fun! I haven't done this in 10 years, am excited but also nervous. Wish us luck!! xoxo

By the way, the Hermes Lindy bag is an A++ traveling companion! The side pockets fit airline tickets perfectly and the long strap goes around the body so I can run around all day long. Am definitely going to get more colors!

I was so close to getting the hot pink Ricky from Ralph Lauren but I got cold feet standing at the counter. I started thinking, "is this love? or just lust which will fade to serious buyer's remorse?" In the end, I let it go. Just as I started hunting for another summer exotic, Dana brought this stunner to my attention-- a gorgeous WHITE alligator Ricky!!! (I am so glad I waited for true love!) There were only four made in the world, and I have no idea why. I can not tell you how long I have dreamed of a white alligator bag, I mean alligator is the ultimate statement bag but in white it's almost sinful! The scales are immaculate and the interior is ultra functional; there are three separate compartments, including one that fits a blackberry or iPhone perfectly! It's a 33cm, which is big for me, but not overwhelming. Even men comment on this little beauty but I don't mind sharing and allow everyone to stroke its amazing skin.

By the way, Dana from Ralph Lauren just alerted me of their private 40% off sale with an additional 20% off starting today. Call her asap 214-522-5270. Don't even bother asking her for another white alligator Ricky, all four have sold! More photos after the jump!

I leave the bag open and unstrapped, those equestrian straps are tricky to get in and out of so why bother. The dangling straps used to bug me but now that I understand Ralph's equestrian intentions of the bag, I find it charming. And look at the scales on the back of the bag, flawless!!! This is it for me for summer bags, I seriously can not indulge in another single bag until the leaves turn color!

I just had to share this with everyone. How fun is it to do a craft project that will actually produce something you want? Now everyone can have their very own little Kelly that they've made themselves, out of paper! Or you can be really crafty and involve some leather! On the Hermes website, you can download the template of 7 different designs, or you can get the blank one and create your own masterpiece (when you get to the site, you must click on the picture of the Kelly cutout to get to the the exact page, it is just right of center). I am not good with stuff like this (it involves glue and cutting within the lines) but I did download it and plan on seeing if I might have a career in handmade bags. I am pretty sure that I will discover that I am better suited at the buying of handmade bags instead =) I am surprised Hermes would do this but I guess they are taking a page from the marketing books of Phillip Morris, train them young so they can grow up to be addicts!

Kelly and I have been waiting for these shirts forever (well, our own fault for being lazy but we finally found an assistant who followed through- thanks, Allison!) - after testing several brands and styles, we found the perfect t-shirt for summer! It's the perfect texture- not thick but not see through at all, the perfect length- hits right at the hip (well, it's a bit long on me but I am tiny!), and the perfect softness. We know you will love them as much as us! We'll be selling them in our Snob Shop this summer but until that's set up, we'll be giving them away in our pop quizzes! Today's pop quiz is really easy, so easy that you are going to laugh but what the heck, it's Saturday, I've been sitting on the beach every day with my son and am completely relaxed and happy :)

Tell me, what size shoe does Kelly wear? (hint: she recently mentioned them in a feature with the oh so fabulous God of shoes :) We'll choose a random winner via computer drawing on Sunday night at 11:59pm EST- the answers will be revealed at that time to be fair to all participants. The winner will choose the size and the desired color. More photos after the jump!!!

Oscar de la Renta is considered an International Fashion Designer but we Americans prefer to claim him as our own (For the record, Mr. de la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic, part of the Americas. He also resides predominantly in New York City, actually, he IS New York --so yes, we win). I wonder if the 18 year old boy from the D.R. who followed his dream to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid knew that he would one day become one of the most influential designers in the history of Fashion. I don’t think there is a woman alive today who has not heard of Oscar de la Renta! Every one of my girlfriends has an “Oscar” story-- the first time they obsessed over one of his beautiful creations.

I remember the first Oscar piece I coveted, it was a shimmering champagne colored frothy gown worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in 2001 (I still have a photo of it from Vogue in my desk, not kidding). I was planning my wedding at the time and was determined to wear it as my wedding dress (so it was a bit see thru and it was not white-- but it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and I wanted it!). Unfortunately, I was not the lucky fashion blogger that I am today with a direct line to the Oscar folks and was unable to locate the gown. But my love affair with Oscar de la Renta began, and it has grown to epic proportions ever since I met the iconic designer this spring. Tell me, do you remember the first time you fell for Oscar?

You may remember our visit to the Oscar de la Renta showroom in February, it was a day that fashion dreams are made of. Not only did I get to play with all the new Fall pieces, I was able to watch the Master of Elegance at work! Oscar is as hands on today as he was four decades ago when he began his signature ready-to-wear label, which now includes accessories such as bags, belts, and shoes. How did it all begin? During his years at the Art Academy in Madrid, Oscar became interested in the world of design and began an apprenticeship with Spain’s most renowned couturier, Cristóbal Balenciaga (which is why the Spaniards refer to him as a Spanish designer). Later, Mr. de la Renta left Spain and joined the house of Lanvin in Paris as a couture assistant (the French would like to claim him as theirs as well, but he’s ours, all ours!). In 1963, he came to New York to design the couture collection for Elizabeth Arden and the rest, as they say, is fashion history.

(Balmain Haute Couture)
In 1992, Oscar De La Renta took the role as Creative Director of Balmain, a position which he would hold for 10 years. His last collection for the House of Balmain was Haute Couture Fall 2002 but it’s evident from his ready-to-wear line that he has retained the same haute couture detailing he has practiced for decades. This is why all women should own Oscar de la Renta bags and clothes; they are truly investment pieces to be treasured for a lifetime! With so many young designers coming in and out of fashion, I am going to stick with the Master, thank you very much! I always feel fabulous in Oscar’s clothes and impossibly chic with his bags on my arm. Even my hubby, the pickiest man alive, agrees wholeheartedly and never complains when a trip to the Oscar boutique is on the agenda! And who can blame him for wanting his wife to look gorgeous!?!?

I caught up with Mr. de la Renta again this month for a quick Q & A (I know, how lucky am I that he'd give me the time of day considering his incredibly hectic schedule!?!?! He is such a gracious and kind man!). I tried to think up smart questions to impress him with, but in the end, I gave in to my curiosity and just asked him questions I think all of you would like to read about!

Bag Snob: What would you consider the biggest accomplishment of your career?
Oscar de la Renta: For me, my greatest accomplishment is that I’m able to be doing what I love most, design, and be successful at it.

BS: Tell us your childhood dreams, what did you dream of being when you grew up?
ODLR: When I was 18, I left my native Dominican Republic to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. While I was in Spain, I began sketching for newspapers and fashion houses to earn some extra money. From there, my interest in the fashion industry grew and I knew I wanted to be a designer.

BS: Do you have any hobbies?
ODLR:I am a dominos fanatic! I take the game very seriously and can be pretty competitive. I also love gardening. Ever since I was a child, I have been planting and growing my own vegetable gardens.

BS: Describe your morning routine.
ODLR:During a typical week I’ll wake up, have a light breakfast, and then immediately head over to the office to begin working in my studio. From there, it’s nonstop. But I love that about my work, because I’m a very restless person. My best times are when I am designing with my assistants.

BS: How do you relax before designing a new collection? Where and how do you find inspiration?
ODLR:I sometimes go down to my house in the Dominican Republic to relax and refresh before starting on a new collection. The beautiful vibrant and colorful island is such a wonderful source of inspiration. But in general, when I design I am mostly just thinking about a woman and how to make her look her most beautiful.

BS: Describe the perfect evening.
ODLR:An intimate dinner party with good friends, great food, and interesting conversation.

Brown alligator New Mini Fairfax bag- $17,500

BS:What should every woman have in her closet?
ODLR:Beautiful separates for mixing and layering, from sophisticated knits and jackets to feminine blouses and skirts. She also needs some stylish accessories to make the look her own, like a bold shoe or a fabulous handbag, of course.

BS: How will you spend your Summer this year?
ODLR:When I’m not working in my studio, I’ll be enjoying the peaceful fresh outdoors of my country home in Kent, Connecticut.

BS: Your favorite bag for Fall?
ODLR:All our bags for Fall are extremely luxurious, but the graphite Goya is truly the ultimate statement bag. It’s designed in a rich, soft shagreen, which makes it especially unique and exotic.
(Bag Snob note: I was secretly smug that I, too, picked the graphite Goya as the bag of the season! Goya bag, $4,795)

Christian Louboutin with Bag Snob Kelly and her signed City Girl Platforms

I was at the Christian Louboutin personal appearance at Barneys in Beverly Hills yesterday. What can I say? I was starstruck and giddy to meet the man who took women with a simple shoe fetish and turned it into a cult following. You can image what the scene was like at Barneys with his most devout in frenetic worship mode, shopping like it was a 90% off sale. Well, it was full price and it was to get his signature heart signature on those signature red soles. If there was one day in my life when I felt lucky to have giant feet, it was today because I had no trouble getting everything in my size (40, thank you very much). The other regular sized feet gal there, including my friend Cindy who is a 38, had no luck because everything was sold out. They were all frantically searching and trying on, willing to get anything in their size. A girl next to me bought the very unpractical Anemone stiletto pumps with a giant bow in the back as a last resort (she had a hard time walking in them). I happily brought home two gorgeous pairs that makes me feel fiery hot and sexy just knowing I have them: Marilou woven sandals ($870) in pewter and the City Girl slingback platforms ($795) in luggage.

As you can imagine, the line to meet Monsieur Louboutin was quite long, at one point it took shoe fans 1.5 hours; so I felt bad taking up too much of his time for our one on one interview and photo op, but I did get in a few questions that he was more than happy to answer. (A big thank you to Shawna, PR Director for Christian Louboutin, for arranging the interview!)

The iconic shoe line is not trend oriented; it never was and that is not how he designs, so I asked him what his process is. When designing a shoe, he said he thinks of the person who is going to wear the shoe and the attitude behind it. He does not consider what you wear with it, "never the outfit", he said. That makes sense, he focuses on the shoes, and let's be honest here, when you've got Loubies on, who is really looking above the ankles? Actually, people are just looking at your red soles ;-)

I wish I could wear heels all day long and everyday, but my back problem prohibits it (I spent my entire 20's in nothing but mile high heels and I am paying for that now). I wear flats and there is nothing sexy or attitude altering about flats and I wanted to know how he feels about them. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by his answer, "I love flats, I have always liked them". Woohoo! Now that I know Monsieur Louboutin approves, I can laugh off my judgmental snotty heel clad friends as I clunk around comfortably in my Robert Clergerie flats. In fact, he loves very flat flats on those with long, big feet! I am indeed a happy girl today (even though I did just buy 5 inch and 4 inch heels).

He is actually quite pragmatic even though you would think he is fussy and fanciful - he is after all THE shoe god and he does design fanciful shoes. When I asked him for a tip on how women can glam themselves up quickly, his initial response was, "what do you mean by tip?". I quickly reverted from my American slang and said, "what is your advice", to which he replied, "clean your hair" (oh good, I did remember to do that). I guess you can say he finds it important to be polished from your head down to your toes!

Today is Christian Louboutin day! And if you think we love exotic, how do you think we feel about a Christian Louboutin exotic!! OK, so we have not been so kind and actually pretty critical of his bags but you cannot go wrong with a simple classic alligator clutch with his signature red leather lining!! To me, the fabulousness of this clutch falls in line with that of the shoe collection. Am I just loving it because it is alligator and I am on a Louboutin high? Yes, but I don't see any reason to discount the love based on those factors. It is a small (ok, mini) clutch, so it is traditional, but if you regularly attend formal affairs, you will need nothing else but this. That is the beauty of owning exotic, people expect you to keep coming out with it rather than snub you as a one trick pony. And they better because it does not come cheap, this baby is $4190 for not a lot of alligator. But it is less than his Very Prive in croc, which are $4990, and remember, shoes eventually wear out, bags, if well taken care of, do not. At Net a Porter.

This is the best thing I have seen in a long time. Now you can really be ready for the beach, I know I am. I just got the cutest hat today, it is big and floppy and has adorable colorful appliques. So, next thing I need is a bag and towel and lookie here, a two for one, bag AND towel. The bag unbuttons, unravels and becomes a giant beach towel. If you think about it, it does work out logistically, you just have to find a spot to put all your stuff while your towel is being transformed. I mean, usually, you empty everything out of the your beach bag anyways so like I said, it does work out eventually. This of course is for those who live close to the beach and frequents it on a regular basis. It not not meant for one of those family outing jobbers that involves coolers, tents and lawn chairs. It is great conceptually, super cute and surprisingly cheap, only $235!! If white is not for you, metallic silver is what you need for the hot weather. And it does in fact go with more and can get you through the rest of the year. This "slashed" leather adds a modern twist and the lining is stretchy so it will flex with the bag, good thinking! The bow is always a cute detail to make the bag go from ultra fem to serious office. The magnetic closure, double outer pockets and compartmentalized interior make this a handy companion you won't need to switch in and out of for weeks on end. They also have the peep toe Lawson wedges ($650) that you absolutely must have!! I have trouble with stilettos, the years of living in cobble stone Boston has left me weary of the ankle hazard, so the wedge and chunky heel trend comforts my heart and body =) The <a target=_"blank" href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=9RQByRmBmGU&offerid=100081.10025354&type=2&subid=0" >Jimmy Choo Keeya Tote at Saks for $1450 and the brand new Jimmy Choo boutique at Two Rodeo, 310 860 9045 (it is gorgeous and huge, with a great selection of everything Choo!).

But I would've had even more fun had I been at the LA dinner with Tomas Maier and Julie Gilhart on the patio of Barneys Greengrass the night before-- hint hint, Marisa -- okay fine, I promise I won't smother him with kisses!). There were incredible Knot bags from the Bottega archives on display along with current pieces for sale. Not only were they amazing to see, I learned so much about the history of this elegant clutch. When it was first introduced, the knot was actually a rectangular crystal clasp (that is how you can distinguish vintage knot clutches from current ones) but the silhouette has always been the same chic and simple style. More after the jump!

I also got a sneak peak at the next season; for fall, the Knot clutch is elongated and embellished with dazzling beads and crystals, absolutely fabulous! Tomas Maier is a genius, he knows how to reinvent and update Bottega bags without losing its signature flavor. Knot bags vary in price depending on the leather and details. There is an origami one that I found exquisite-- there is something about Eastern influence on a very Western style bag that is extraordinary. Call Jasenka at Bottega Veneta boutique to inquire about getting a Knot bag that fits your personality and taste! 214-265-0136

Givenchy Nightingale, 12.5"x19" $1,995 at Barneys

I am completely obsessed with Givenchy lately, it actually began over a year ago when I first spotted the Nightingale at Barneys but lately I can't get its urban chic bags and edgy sexy shoes out of my mind. My friend Sasha has a similar obsession (one that I can't discuss) and we have spent hours lamenting over Givenchy! I am especially loving the latest Nightingale incarnation in white smooth leather and Tejus lizard handles. Fresh and clean, with just a touch of metallic pizazz, it's really one of the best white bags out right now. And check out the Grommet clutch below ($995), it is smokin' hot à la "Love is a Battlefield"!
Okay, so it's about as far from a classic birkin as one can veer in taste but if you knew me you would understand. I get bored easily and need excitement constantly, and let me tell you, Givenchy is exciting! Now that I am a mommy, I don't hit the night scene. But I still like to let the little vixen inside me out for a bit of naughty fun, even if it's only through my bags. Check out the shoes I am drooling over after the jump. At Barneys and Shopbop. Gold gladiator shoes also at Zappos!

What about you, what is your "go to" brand when you want a little excitement?

This really brings out the '80s girl in me. I was all about Joan Jett in junior high school!

How sexy is this gladiator bootie? There is also a gold version but I like the black cuz it's more naughty.

Now this is just retro fabulous. It's ladylike but edgy, my friend got a gold pair when we went shopping last weekend but they were out of my size... sigh... But I got the black pair yesterday at Barneys!!!
