The next "IT" bag?

Dear Bag Snob,

What do you think the next "IT" bag of the season will be? Also what colours are going to be big this year?

Thanks.
Angela

Hi Angela,

The Chloe Edith is poised to be the big "It" bag of the season. Especially with the departure of head designer Phoebe Philo, it is sure to become a collector's item alongside the iconic Paddington. We are also predicting lots of soft and muted colors for the year, no more tacky loud fuschia or purple bags, it's all about classic ladylike shapes and colors and smaller bags. White is a hot color for bags this spring as are nude and beige colors. We love this beige kelly croc, it's a classic little bag but will instantly update your wardrobe.

Calling All Exotics

nutiostrich.jpg

Dear Bag Snob,

I love the Croc bags! I am waiting for Ostrich to make an appearance. What do you think???

Sari

Dear Sari,

Yes and yes. You are on the right track, girl! Exotics are the thing - croc, ostrich, lizard, any reptile you can get your greedy little hands on will be well worth the investment! We love this bag from Nuti, a little known Italian designer with incredible attention to quality and detail and the best part.... value! What's that you say? It means you can get this ostrich for $2,200 and still go hog wild at the Net A Porter sale.

Dear Bag Snob,

I'm about to drop a load to get the black Mizi Vienna. I have lots of beautiful bags already...am i making a mistake??????

Thanks.

Ally

Dear Ally,

One can never have too many bags. If you can get your hands on a black Louis Vuitton Mizi Vienna, I say go for it! It is sure to become a cult classic and will be a nice addition to your collection.

All fakes are not created equal

Dear Snob,

How can u spot a fake?

Emichiee

Dear Emichiee,
Reproductions of designer bags are everywhere these days. You can go on Canal street and pick up the "birkin" or the "spy bag" for a mere $50, but those are so obviously fake that you'd be chased out of Hermes if you ever took one in there (Louis Vuitton will actually confiscate a fake and try to have you arrested and fined!). Then there are some fakes called "AAA" that look so much like the real thing that the stores have a hard time spotting them. People even sell these fakes on eBay as authentic for thousands of dollars! So how do we spot the fakes? Here are a few pointers:

Dear Snob,

I love the Chloe saddle bag but the Mulberry Tyler is very similar. What do
you think about the Tyler since you hated their Roxanne bag? Is it an
acceptable substitute for the hard to get and pricey Chloe?

Please advise,

Joy

Dear Joy,

The Snob, like Hermes, prefers equestrian inspired goods over hideously ugly military bags such as the Roxane by Mulberry. But I certainly am not against the entire Mulberry line of bags! If you love saddles bags but can't afford the pricey Chloe saddle paddington, the Mulberry Tyler is definitely acceptable! As I always preach, real style can not be bought with money.

Babies "R" Hip

Dear Snob,

I just had a baby and as you know, there is no acceptable diaper bag out
there. I've been using totes but they don't seem to work because there are
no compartments for all the baby stuff. Do you have a reccomendation for a
hip young mom?

Love, Julie

Dear Julie,

I had the same problem when I had my son last year! My solution was a big togo birkin, there is nothing more hip than using a gorgeous Hermes birkin to tote around diapers and bottles. The birkin has two generous sized inner pockets, which fits diapers on one side, wipes on the other. You can throw everything else in the middle. Perfect right?

Dear Snob,

I bought the Balenciaga bag in purple for this season. Yesterday, I was out shopping and this soccer mom suburbia housewife was looking at the same bag! What should I do? Should I return it?

Ain't no Desperate Housewife, Eva

Dear Eva,
If suburbia housewives and Lindsay Lohan are coveting the Balenciaga motorcycle bag it's time to get out. Return the "so over" Balenciaga bag and get in on a "so now" Chloe Paddington in Blue Nuit ASAP.

Too Hypothetically Cheap To Marry?

Dear Snob,

I am dating someone who I think I want to marry. He is great in every
way except this morning when I asked him a hypothetical question, he gave me
totally the wrong answer! I asked, if he was the richest person in the
world, like Bill Gates, how much would he spend on diamonds for my
engagement ring. He said $1 Million. I said I expected $30 M and he said
that was too ridiculous to spend and he wouldn't do it. Mind you, this is
hypothetical FAKE money. Should I be concerned of his generosity towards
me?

Sincerely, Ginny

Dear Ginny,
Do you know how many millions there are in $45 billion? That's about how much money the richest person in the world has. The rule of thumb for the engagement diamond is two months salary, or in his case, two weeks' interest (and I'm being conservative here). $1 million would be the interest he earns on his money every 8 hours. Paris Hilton snagged a $5 million, 24 carat rock from her fiance, whose family fortune is vast but not the wealthiest in the world. You make the call...
