Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013 Collection: Gaining My Religion
By Bag Snob Tina on February 26, 2013 9:00 am Tina Craig

Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2013 Runway Bags

You can always expect the dynamic duo to hark back to their Sicilian roots – and romanticize them to no end. This time they went straight to the altar. The Cathedral in Monreale in Sicily, to be exact. Unapologetic, beyond ornate, ironically prim and seductively spiritual (that is, if you consider attending a fashion show a religious experience): Domenico and Stefano might just be born again.

This is one of the best collections I have ever seen from the brash Italian duo. From the Byzantine-inspired crowns to the molded herringbone peplums, the prim suits and ultra-sheer lace topped with can’t-miss crosses, the homage to their homeland is loud and clear. Better yet, compared to their bags of previous seasons, this is a solid collection that snobs will approve of. I never thought I would ever crave a mosaic-tiled bag. But these collector’s item-worthy pieces are over-the-top in a wild and wonderful way that only Dolce & Gabbana can produce. I must admit, it’s refreshing to see some real fun with design. Luckily, taste wasn’t tossed out the window. They are also simply structured bags in the way of alligator, python and leather. Paired with irresistible bird-caged sandals, the workmanship on both the accessories and ready-to-wear is awe-inspiring, as well. An ambitious collection with something for everyone: Whether you prefer to look like the Virgin Mary incarnate, a good Catholic girl gone bad, or a conflicted nun with impure thoughts – and a wardrobe to match – the church of Dolce & Gabbana beckons for the fall season.
