Belstaff Fall 2013 Collection: Belstaff of the Ball
By Bag Snob Tina on February 12, 2013 12:42 pm Tina Craig

Belstaff Fall/Winter 2013 Bags

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a year since the re-launch of the original biker label – they are doing it like a seasoned pro. Presenting a hefty collection with a wise focus on outerwear, Belstaff cleverly applied the heritage of their brand as building blocks, and now they have redefined luxury. Thanks to innovative techniques, tough-girl clothes suddenly have a new sense of decadence, and I can’t get enough. Thigh-high boots that don’t mess around, plenty of quilting (this stuff actually looks like it will keep you warm!), bonded leather coats as inpenetrable as they are cool: it’s all made glamorous with panels of fur, explosions of shearling, and a slick, expert way with leather. Such successful execution is an especially impressive feat, considering they produced a thrilling collection that consists strictly of true neutrals (save for a few elements of oxblood).

Luckily, Belfstaff knows how to balance the skin-heavy vigor with a healthy helping of femininity. Flippy A-line skirts kept things just sweet enough, and they are perfect for showing off girlish knees – clearly, the area of skin to flash for the Belstaff chick. My favorite of the show: the vintage python Hayden jacket and python dress in monochrome chestnut. On top of it all, this is the best bag collection I’ve seen so far at NYFW. From the long –chain-handled Eugenie to the ladylike Alexandra to the grey box Diana, they delivered that smartness and strength you demand come autumn. I haven’t been happier a house is back in action in a long time.
