Here’s a case where “iconic” doesn’t necessarily equal “covetable.” In 1969, Paco Rabanne took the world by storm with his sexy space-queen costumes for Barbarella and his equally racy way with mini-dresses and chain links. The Spanish designer’s heavy-metal bags got re-issued in Spring 2011 to rave reviews, (mine included), but recent incarnations, like the junk-drawer chic Le 69 have left me wanting more. Or shall I say less?
You know when it comes to furry bags and yours truly, it’s a hit or miss situation. Well, usually miss, and sadly, this mix of hard and soft is no exception.
Whether black or rust-brown
, the outcome is equally odd. This riff on the retro icob not wholly without chic (it could work, on the right girl, on the right day, with the right dress…), but it also reminds me of a critter in a cage trying to get out, what with those tufts of mink bursting through those chain-like rubber discs. So how do you feel about this revamp of a legend: revved-up redux or hairy situation? On Luisa Via Roma
for $3,400.
