Alaïa Embossed Leather Shoulder Bag: The Allure of Alaïa
By Bag Snob Kelly on November 20, 2012 9:00 am Kelly Cook

I think Cher Horowitz said it best: “You don’t understand, this is an Alaïa!” My hubby may not fully grasp the significance of the “totally important designer,” but this bag is going on the Christmas wish list I’ll soon be giving him.

A quilted bag is a timeless classic, but the Alaïa petal design is so iconic in its own right, it makes perfect sense to spring for a combination of the two. This embossed shoulder bag makes for the ultimate in stylistic longevity. Sure, the super-skinny silhouette doesn’t have the sing and sway of a Chanel, but, come on, Alaïa is so much cooler. And what makes it cooler still is the price tag: just one-third of what those interlocked-Cs go for. I admit Chanel is also on my list (it never hurts to ask!), but I have a feeling this slim number will show up under the tree and the other won’t – and that is fine by me. On Net-a-Porter for $1,445.

Pair with: I’ll tuck this under my arm as I slip into a dazzling gold skirt, my favorite wardrobe pick-me-up of the holiday season. Donna Karan’s stretch pencil ($1,095), Hervé Leger’s flared bandage ($1,150), Proenza Schouler’s embroidered mini ($3,650), Catherine Malandrino’s crisp pleats ($245), and Diane von Furstenberg’s puffed jacquard ($285) would all pair nicely.
