In this day and age, everyone and their mother have designed a version of the Birkin. Honestly, this one is not bad. Not bad at all. Salvatore Ferragamo has done something very smart: the accordion-style gusset is what sets this strap-happy bag apart from most. Thank god, since that belt system is nearly identical to the Birkin, especially in the way it’s attached in the back. Plus, it’s thin and flat. Rather than resembling an Hèrmes knockoff tote, it exudes “fully-grown workbag.” A lawyer’s carryall, specifically.
Other details give it distinction. It comes with a handy shoulder strap, adjustable so you can go from proper to casual in a matter of moments (I especially like the ring hardware detail), and there’s also an external pocket – a true improvement on the original inspiration. Pair with: Robert Clergerie’s angular Polly pumps ($950) own a good balance of boardroom and recreation, and that rich red will make a white bag pop.
