An evergreen wardrobe is every woman’s dream and no one knows this like Lagerfeld. Chanel‘s Spring star is a good girl with a Resort sensibility and loads of spunk, to boot. So much, in fact, that she has the guts to carry a hula-hoop bag! While the clothes are surprisingly wearable (cropped tweed jackets and frolicsome skirts), it’s all about exaggeration, from the oversized Peter Pan collars to clusters of pearls, each the size of a golf ball, to ultra-round shoulders all the way to sunhats with transparent brims the size of, well, the sun. These overwhelming shoulders smartly give way to skinny pants, ankle-grazing skirts, and multi-seasonal shorts. Yet all this pales in comparison to the show-stealer (anything but evergreen!): a daytrip-sized, classic, quilted flapfront bag nestled in two appropriated hula-hoops, which double as the straps. Paired with an interlock-C swimsuit, this is the ultimate poolside look for the fashion (and attention) diehard. While this is pure fantasy, baby versions, with miniature circular straps, will surely fly off the shelves. Other appropriately petite-sized bags in primary brights prove colorblocking can still feel fresh, especially worn with Karl’s graphic prints and rigid minis.
The hoop might make you laugh, but isn’t that the point of it all? I’m thrilled to see someone still knows how to have some old-fashioned fun, even this toy is less for backyard hijinks and more for the outrageous likes of Anna Dello Russo and the like.
