All hail Mulberry! After endless incarnations of the Bayswater, I am thrilled to discover Spring 2013 spotlights a standout bag collection from the British brand. With “English-country heritage” and a “sorbet summer palette” acting as Emma Hill’s primary inspirations, a spectrum of upbeat colors, from warm apricots to yummy caramels thawed the stage, which was bordered with custom, blossom-drenched trees, announcing this show would be a walk in the park. Albeit a very glamorous stroll; celebs in attendance included the somehow increasingly-chic Kate Moss, among others.
The city mouse meets the country mouse (with a some 1970s flair thrown in for good measure), as leather commanded the stage, complemented by an array of sleek and structured totes, and softer elements of slouchy silhouettes, artisan-woven jacquards, and sweetly embroidered-floral prints brought everything into full bloom. And so did the bags. Punchy retro flowers and fresh perforations breathe new life to the old-fashioned flavor, and while mainstay-shapes like the Del Rey and Alexa stay in play, the Willow is set to be the top-handled tote of the moment. With a zip-off detachable clutch, making for a sharp envelope accent, it’s a two-for-one special that looks as good as it is practical. I think I may be purchasing many a Mulberry bag come Spring 2013. A chain-handled tote with whimsical scalloped edges and flower clasp in fresh minty green?! It’s the the perfect statement for spring, and playful-meets-traditional Mulberry has proven themselves to be just the brand for the job.
