Givenchy Nightingale Top-Handle and Pandora Shoulder Bag: Club Remix
By Bag Snob Tina on September 28, 2012 9:00 am Tina Craig

Yes, it’s been done and done and done some more, but I still love a good club-inspired bag. Givenchy gives classic sporty stripes a new twist, applying them as more of a punchy punctuation than something overtly athletic. Simultaneously, they have refreshed two of their quintessential carryalls.

I love the subtlety of the updated Nightingale ($2,260). These stripes don’t force you to make a huge commitment to the athletic trend but give nod to its relevance. You get the simplicity of a basic black bag, minus the snooze factor. Besides, I love a jazzed-up shoulder strap (especially one that’s optional). As for the Pandora ($2,020), I’m not sure why it’s still so popular. The single top-handle is beyond awkward, and I’ve seen people spill their business while trying to get their cell phone or credit card. I have posed the question to friends who own this bag, pointing out the obvious flaws (which I’m sure they’re well aware of after taking it out for an errand or two) and the answer is always the same: “But it’s GIVENCHYYYY…!” Fair enough, ladies. At least this version has interesting stripes to look at.

Your comments about the Pandora are so way off–I’ve had mine at least two years and can’t relate to what you’re saying. It’s a functional and beautifully designed bag. (No to the stripes.)

I still love my plain black (pebbled lambskin) Nightingale too. It’s just so elegant and understated and imo, never out of style.

Different strokes for different folks. I disagree about the Pandora as well. I have two of them and have never had a more functional and quietly chic bag. I’ll take a Pandora over a luggage tote any day. As far as the stripes, no, too Marlboro.
