Noir. Is there another word that evokes more mystery or sex appeal? Now is the perfect time (Fall ’12 is the season of black, after all) for the release of Valentino’s Noir capsule collection, which, while all black, is neither basic nor boring. Maria Grazia and Pierpaolo call it the “irreversible sum of all colors,” this is a celebration of texture, personality, and reaction to light. It’s tantalizing and exciting, and it makes me want to throw out all the bright colors I’ve been indulging in for what seems like years now.
These designers live for contrast. Where would the house be without dueling elements of lace and studs? Utilizing iconic hardware and lush leathers and exotic skins, they are revealing a side of black as multi-layered and complex as the women who love to wear the shade (myself included). Sumptuous pony, python, and crocodile skins are juxtaposed defiantly with ruthenium hardware. With an energy that makes for a snob’s dark dream come true, they’ve imbued each piece with that Valentino edge the power duo has brought to the brand since taking over the reigns as creative directors in the Fall of ’08. Let’s claim the night for ourselves!
The collection will be available at Valentino boutiques. See Valentino for store locations. Prices range from $195-$17,000.
Valentino is also available at Saks Fifth Avenue.
