The Baginizer: Healthy Compartmentalization
By Bag Snob Tina on August 3, 2012 9:00 am Tina Craig

I change bags almost daily (I don’t think I could call myself a bag snob if I hauled the same tote around all the time!), even while traveling in Asia this summer (8 bags, 4 clutches for 6 weeks). I thought I had my system down: keeping only a wallet and makeup case in my bags for easy switching. However, I always end up with bits and pieces of paper, receipts, nail polish, and so on at the bottom of my bag by day’s end. The answer?! No, it’s not carrying the same bag for months at a time. It’s the Baginizer!

Bag inserts are nothing new, but this one is as well-made as the Birkins they fit into. Fret not if you’re no Birkin or Kelly kind of girl; the Baginizer fits in any type of structured bag or tote, and it comes in three sizes, complete with retrofitted pen-holders and multiple pockets for everything you can possibly think of. My life is much easier now, and I never dig for pens (one of my least favorite activities!). At Baginizer for $99-$135.

Hermes is definitely the most expensive option and I have found the canvas a bit cumbersome and even the small size not easy to keep clean and not enough separators. These handbag organizers/switchers have been available for about 25 years because I used to produce them in quilted Thai silk for at least 10 years. Then came a entire run of gwp giveaways in various fabrics and in the last three years they are available in almost every luggage or handbag shop in 3-4 sizes in various colours nylong—lightweight, easy to wash and you can select contrast colour with the inside of your handbag or matching. I have bought three in nylong one for my giant tote, a second for my birkins and a third for my Kelly or Chanels. But I must admit when it comes to the evening bag switch nothing works except self discipline and the old rule of only a credit card, coins for the toilet maid, lipstick, powder puff, and a small metal combb sprayed heavily with Elnet hairspray.
