Bottega Veneta Waxes Poetic: The Intrecciomirage Tote Revolution
By Bag Snob Tina on August 30, 2012 9:00 am Tina Craig

Bottega Veneta Purple and Gold Waxed Leather Clutch

Simply put, Bottega Veneta has a sense of innovation and gumption that few luxury brands possess. Houses at very high-end levels are rarely willing to take chances with their expensive skins. Yet Bottega, under the revolutionary direction of Tomas Maier, continues to rebel against the norm. They’ve perfected the high-low mix like no other.

This season, “high” comes in the form of waxed leather with hand-painted gold trim. Like a gold-leaf frame around a work of art, this clutch (on Net-a-Porter for $1,400) is a rarity. Conversely, Maier is one of few who experiments with lesser materials (bags made of paper and trimmed in python a few seasons ago) and manages to make it all look luxe.

The new Intracciomirage line boasts two materials, both at very accessible price points: compressed calf-leather and a high-tech fabric, exclusive to Bottega Veneta, resembling their iconic woven leather – until you touch it. Knocking themselves off before others do: brilliant! The beauty is, it’s still Bottega so the quality is superb.

The compressed calf leather totes, in trademark shades like plum and espresso run between $980 and $1,150, while the Intrecciolusion fabric totes, in roomy rectangular and sleek vertical shapes go for just $490-$550.

Available at Bottega Veneta.
