Resort ’13 is anything but predictable. From sleek and chic to kaleidoscope-induced patterns, you can take it from one extreme to the next with a quick switch of clutch. What’s your poison?
Givenchy indulges in another round of wild prints, this time with gypsy-luxe scarf patterns and wildly ornate embellishments taking over. Transfixing, yes, and I’m still as colorful as they come, but for Resort this go-round, I am feeling sleek and clean.
Lanvin is in a neutral state of mind, too; their take on sleek involves smooth, sharp lines of naturalistic wood. Stella McCartney’s geometric lines may read strong and pure, but her mixed materials (glitter, metallic pink, and stamped croc) make for arts-and-crafts cheekiness. Working the flared edges of their Trapeze bag into a super-sized portfolio clutch, ever-sleek Céline maintains their slick, powerful aesthetic. Oscar de la Renta opts for a graphic take on gingham, and Proenza Schouler refines their hardware to minimalist effects. Ultimately, it’s Donna Karan who strikes the mood perfectly, with off-kilter angularity and an artistic-modern spirit of her bold yet light minaudiere.

Yes, I finally feel excited for bags again.
