Didn’t I just say I was growing weary of now-constant colorblocking? Count on Barbara Bui to make me eat my words. While I’m easing up on all-over blocking, nobody said my bag needs to be monochrome. Especially when the bag in question is this good. This edgy nod to opposing hues – with muted shades in the front and a pop of shock, via turquoise suede, in the back – is as thoughtful as it is surprising.
The element of surprise is nothing new to Bui. Before Isabel Marant et al, there was Barbara. She paved the way for boho Parisian-chic (it’s hard to believe she’s been in the game for 30 years!), and she remains one of the most under-the-radar designers that I think the mainstream would be wise to jump on.
If you haven’t bought a Bui piece yet, make this bag your first foray! The salmon panel of python flows effortlessly into vibrant bright suede, and just a flash of metallic makes this a winner for evening and day. Finally, a “trendy” bag that, like its designer, can withstand the test of time. On Ssense for $2,340.
Pair with: It might be daring, but carry this shoulder bag with ALICE by Temperley’s Raga jumpsuit. A comfy jersey with a roaring tiger print, it’s sassy summer fun. On Net-a-Porter for $380.
