In honor of prom season, here’s our questionable queen: the latest rendition of the Christian Louboutin Artemis bag! I was obsessed with the whimsically show-girl rendition of the Artemis but this version is, well, a bit too prom season circa 1983. The pleated satin shoulder-explosion reminds me of an original pouf-sleeved Lacroix creation (the other French Christian!). So very Dynasty…so very not my evening look these days.
If you closely inspect the over-the-top detailing of this embellished shoulder bag, it is actually quite beautifully: the petal-like fuchsia folds are accented with delicate crystals and the black-raffia blooms give a needed sense of earthiness, making it slightly more current. But not enough! The only shoulder pads I’m interested in these days are more in the vicinity of sculpted Balmain blazers (and even those are beginning to look passé). Or maybe it looks more like a luxe parachute dropping a black leather purse. Either way, the price is anything but retro. What do you think of Louboutin’s big, sassy shoulder? I flashed back to Dynasty days as well. While the craftsmanship is undeniable this Artemis bag just doesn’t do it for me.
