Marc Jacobs: The (Sojo) Victoria Era
By Bag Snob Tina on March 7, 2012 9:00 am Tina Craig

Glancing at Marc Jacobs’ appetizing new collection feels like a cheerful trip to the candy shop. Rather, the snob’s candy shop! For the Spring ready-to-wear season, Marc displayed a plethora of cellophane-like PVC, transparent gingham, and off-kilter pastels down his rock-a-billy-chic runway.

Now the bags have arrived to lift our spirits, with the same young, fun-loving attitude in mind. I always love his classic quilted chain bags for young girls. The Baroque ($895) is the cool alternative to a trademark Chanel bag, especially in spot-on hot pink (a must-have color this season). Marc also proves colorblocking is not going anywhere. The chain-strapped Brighton ($1,495) looks refreshing in blue hues and metallic gold – and I didn’t even recognize theVenetia ($2,195) in its new dual-toned incarnation!

But what really gets my sweet tooth going? My absolute favorite is the Sojo Victoria ($2,995), a wonderfully clean-lined hobo that comes in white, yellow, and blue. But it’s most certainly the mint calf-hair that steals the spotlight and incites a craving. It is so fresh, in more ways than one!

All at MarcJacobs.com and Marc Jacobs boutiques worldwide.

I completely agree, Marc Jacobs is pretty great. The thing I like the best is that he always puts out a product that is lovely, well made, innovative, and usually at a reasonable price point.

I’ve been a big fan of Marc Jacobs for years, but lately I’ve been very disappointed with the selection of handbags. This season is probably the worst, cuz I can’t find a single style that interests me. The Sojo Victoria is pretty – I do love the color – but the style is kinda boring, and almost $3k? There are far more bags out there priced less that I like better than this. I also don’t also understand the Venetia – that’s not the Venetia! This is some bowler style bag with the Venetia name. The Venetia has always been an iconic MJ bag with its large pockets and hardware, but this is awful – and $2k+? Seriously? I can buy a Celine Luggage for $200 more which is a far better bag than this. Sorry MJ, but you’re really missing the “marc” lately!
