Fall 2012 not only marks the arrival of a tour de force collection from Alber Elbaz, it marks a true milestone. This season, he is celebrating the anniversary of his ten chic years at Lanvin. And we’ve come full circle! Alber’s ladylike party girl-gone-spontaneous is back in full effect. The show unfolded like a shimmering, color-popping, heart-pounding retrospective of sorts, with a natural emphasis on the unabashed cocktail dress – think contrasts of structure and softness (sharp shoulders and rounded hips, curved shoulders and hard collars). Think the juxtaposition of jolts of juicy color and deep, mysterious all-black looks. Think movement and flounce and everything about Lanvin that makes the quintessential girl’s girl within us want to jump up and celebrate.
That especially goes for the bags! What’s old is new again: accompanying the gem-encrusted jackets and hot-pink pumps, princess skirts and bursts of fur were bags to take the Lanvin woman through all walks of life, from work to luncheon to party (well, mostly to party). They’ve also returned with a slight military feel – there’s a refreshingly new structure and sleekness to the strapped-up, fold-over clutches and stylish doctor’s bags.
No more fraying ribbons and dangling chains – and I’m loving it! When it comes to the evening clutch (although a number will have you tempted to jazz up the sunlight), choose between jewel-trimmed jewel-tones and geometric boxes. Do you prefer clean, slick lines or bejewled excess? For Fall 2012, Lanvin has you covered you either way. More importantly, Alber has reminded us why we love Lanvin – and why each and everyone one of us enjoys being a girl.
