She is the modern power player-meets-sex goddess, and there will never fail to be a place for such an enlivening creature in the world. For Spring 2012, she was released in full effect. Deep red lips, leather-cinched waist, strapped-up high heels, and clothes that are feminine with a capital F. And the bags? That’s where all of this glamour gets finalized.
Ford’s skintight satin suits, python-patchworked pencil skirts, and ruffled, sheer dresses would be without punctuation if the bags weren’t there to ground the looks. Not only do they complete, they enhance. And like the clothes, they are timeless. A snakeskin clutch never goes out of style; when it has Ford’s golden touch, it will shine forever. The mini-bag has never been more glamorous; hanging energetically from a bright gold chain, it’s fresh yet classic. A clutch posing as a burst of feathers? Yes, please! A minaudière as ornate as a skirt’s embellishments? Yes, again! Small scale and big impact: Tom’s heart seems to be in the bags. When asked by an interviewer about his film career, he responded, “Well, moviemaking has gone away in favor of bag-making.” I always knew Tom Ford was a man after my own heart, this just confirms it!
