Get ready to start hearing – and wearing – the name Monika Chiang on the regular! This fall, the former stylist and nightlife entrepreneur is opening her eponymous boutiques in West Hollywood and New York City, and they are packed with everything the insouciantly glamorous snob could ask for.
As the child of artists, Monika grew up traveling the world (from Hong Kong to France to Sweden and beyond) and her keen sense of urban-casual chic reflects it. Think luxury with some grit to it. She describes her ready-to-wear pieces, built around unfussy cashmere and lambskin leather; high-heeled shoes (that even includes ballet flats with a built-in wedge!) with studs and spikes; and obsession-worthy accessories as “signature statement pieces that quickly become everyday staples.” It’s about dressing for comfort and empowerment without sacrificing style, she says. The line is also incredibly well-priced, especially for the level of quality. Monika is as picky as a snob can be (she even opened her own factories to control every detail bearing her name).

We Skyped with her and hello, the most gorgeous Asian girl, ever. At 5’10” with a body to die for, can the girl be any luckier? Now, not only do we predict Monika will be a major fashion power to contend with, we are lusting after her designs. I have my eye on the sculpted leather leggings to pair with gently worn boyfriend sweaters (holes have never looked more perfect!), and, of course, I’m on waitlist for that Raja clutch I fell for last week. Kelly is crazy for the sheared raccoon fur – she raved about the boutique on Robertson Boulevard after a recent visit when she tried on everything.
So when Monika asked us to host the cocktail for the opening of her preview shop in New York City, we said, “Hell, yes!” and started packing almost immediately. Please join us to celebrate her opening at 136 Prince Street on November 16th from 7-9pm!
