Mulberry Pre-Spring 2012 Collection: Summer Camp
By Bag Snob Tina on November 4, 2011 6:00 am Tina Craig

For their introduction to Spring 2012, Mulberry is switching up their game (high time if you ask me). The latest ought to surprise you, as their boxy messengers and strapped fold-over satchels have made way for a new addition: the Evelina. Inspired by the light-heartedness of English beachfronts and old-fashioned summertime campgrounds, there is an ease to Mulberry’s new vibe – a little more country than city.

The Evelina comes in three styles of various skins (large grain calfskin, ostrich, leopard-print calf-hair) and beach-inspired colors (pale khaki, caramel fudge, soft black), and they all go for a relaxed shape and touchable skin. The hobo has a YSL vibe, in a good way; along with its large size and concise style, the optional shoulder strap screams everyday wear. There’s an air of English insouciance to the large satchel, thanks to a curvy, not confrontational shape and breezy front-flap. But I declare the winner to be the small satchel; I love the subtle touches of golden hardware and the vague nod to retro style.

That’s not the only change: the biggest difference is that Mulberry has also exchanged their large postman’s lock closure (Bayswater ring a bell?) for a sleek, modernized metal plaque on the strap.

Evelina Hobo at Mulberry for $1,250-$3,150 (calf-hair).

Large Evelina Satchel at Mulberry for $1,400-$6,250 (ostrich).

Evelina Satchel at Mulberry for $935.

Indeed it is time for Mulberry to update. Really like the hobo in leopard but too YSL like to justify at double the YSL price.

Everything is just worth the $$$. I love the Evelina Satchel more though, satchel bags are making a huge come-back now adding to the vintage feel…
