I never thought I would ever say this about a J. Crew bag, but holy chic-ness! Kelly had already wizened up to the fact that the once-preppy, now-savvy mega-brand is delivering a couple shockingly good bags. After inspecting the Edie purse myself at the J. Crew preview, I have to say I’m with her! I can also say it is SO well-made!

Seriously under $450? This top-handle-cum-shoulder bag bears a striking resemblance to Céline’s box bag (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery), but this is an appropriately larger and more American version, what with the more traditional and less sculptural closure. Not to mention only a fraction of the cost of a Céline box.

At 10.5″ wide, this snappy mix of spotted calf-hair and espresso leather is the right size for day and night – and no matter what time of day, I love the metro feel of a boxy bag. We might be snobs, but we don’t care about brand names. We want our bags to look good and function just as well, and the Edie delivers. My friends, don’t hesitate on this one. Get it asap. If you’re feeling generous, spring for two and treat your best friend to a holiday gift she’ll actually use. At J. Crew for $448.
