When I was in Paris last month I had the pleasure of meeting the Creative Director of Hermes Leather Goods, Couli Jolbert (for an exciting project I am working on with Hermes!). Her job is not only to design innovative new bags and leather goods but to keep the current styles interesting and exciting for Hermes addicts– dream job, right?! Another dream for the serious Hermes collector is the “Club” birkin introduced earlier this year. The sporty stripes and tri-color blocked skins make for an interesting mix without compromising the original DNA of the birkin bag. As Couli herself told me, if you make the birkin too different, it ends up looking like a copy of itself (in other words, fake!).
I’ve been wanting a club birkin for months, and so happy to finally adopt the new baby into my collection. In 30cm white clemence with gorgeous sanguine (a dark red/orange) lizard stripes juxtaposed with gris pearl leather, it is one of the most beautiful birkins I own! There is also a gray version with mykonos lizard and for fall/winter– gold-marron and etain-graphite. The limited edition Hermes Club birkins are a collector’s dream, if you can get your hands on one– do not hesitate!
