Carven Tweed Shoulder Bag: Let’s Get Up to Tweed
By Bag Snob Kelly
November 22, 2011

I love the look of Carven’s tweed shoes, but they are so uncomfortable I couldn’t deal with wearing them for more than a few minutes, much less conceive of buying them. Shoes are a wild card, but the beauty of bags? They always fit! Carven’s shoulder bag is a totally viable option.

All of the details are in place. While the slinky, box chain-strap makes for a prim and proper option – great for ladylike girls (not me at all!) – I’m all about carrying this purse as a clutch. A buckled leather wristlet makes it a viable daytime option, and the mash-up of accents (leather inserts, gunmetal hardware, push-lock closure, and a punctuation of chestnut pony hair) brings the richness it deserves.

These assertive touches also give what would otherwise be a somewhat insubstantial bit of tweed the true legitimacy this bag deserves. I can’t wait to give it a few twists – it’s so cute and savvy to take a sober-looking bag and turn it upside-down with ripped jeans and a sloppy-chic sweater. At Barneys New York for $600.

Pair with: Pick up on that pony hair with Rag & Bone’s instant classic Durham booties, an update on the moto boot that is slightly more tailored. A stacked 2.25” heel and slick graduated tan leather makes this clutch-appropriate. On Ssense for $495.

What a sensational find! Tweed is on-trend for 2011-12. It seems that designer has a tweed-jacket suit on the racks. And wristlet purses are so popular, they turned around the Coach brand. Great featured item.
