Improvisation. That’s how Miuccia puts together her Miu Miu line, as opposed to Prada, which involves much in-depth deliberation. In the mere 15 days since the Prada show, she designed spring’s wondrous and wicked world. It wasn’t neat and tidy, rather an intriguing and unsettling hodgepodge of mixed-up patchwork patterns, revealingly deep-V necklines, New Wave-era eye shadow, and restrictive panels of fabric swaddling the wan-faced models. Avant-garde, yes, but all in all, thanks in large part to the bags, the result was a bizarre and fresh take on romance.

Snuggly yet structured little velvet and lace handbags and garden-pail satchels countered the sharp lines and hard edges of some of the clothing and complimented the elongated bows and offbeat lace of the collection’s other half. Every heroine of twisted folklore – think Little Red Riding Hood, sans hood and gone wild – needs a dreamy little handbag to tote around.

Some of the shapes were stern and rounded, kind of like cartoon toasters; other petite frame bags took on a slouchy-pouch shape. With round, uncompromising handles of bright gold and stamped skin, they were reminiscent of little girls’ toy purses. Flamboyant Roccocco-meets-Western touches, a bit of metal here or through colorful all-over leather designs, brought the bags to life and gave them flavor. Even a butterfly or two made its way in, but despite the dashes of frivolity, in Miuccia’s latest improvised fairy tale, the dark villain beats out the innocent princess. For Spring 2012, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

I cannot think of anything good to say….
Those are so cute! I really need to stop carrying so much stuff around so I can use a smaller bag!
Quirky and fabulous as only Miuccia can deliver.
dont get the hansel and gretel vibe but i must say, i really love the plain velvet numbers, especially that dusty pink. i would carry that or the navy, maybe twice!
fun!
The Miuccia Prada handbag design is very good.
Wicked bags
