Somebody has suddenly grown up! Gone are all the fringes and excessive studs. Rebecca Minkoff, with a full Spring 2012 collection, is giving us easy glamour, with insouciant Halston and Chanel influences. Her clothes, a friendly mix of cropped tops and full-legged trousers, fun-in-the-sun dresses, and no-fuss after-dark looks, satisfy Minkoff’s newly polished bags.
There are the quilted leather satchels, adorned in delicate studs (to keep the Chanel influence to a minimum), that actually look quite complimentary against breezy cocktail dresses. Snake-stamped square top handles and chain-strapped shoulder bags can work from day to night, and quaint-ish clutches are surprisingly streamlined. Moving from imaginative adolescent to confident twenty-something, Minkoff’s aesthetic is headed in the right direction, and the designer’s set to cement an attainable lifestyle brand.
