Fall’s Best Reds: Live Long and Prosper
By Bag Snob Tina on August 22, 2011 9:00 am Tina Craig

In American culture, red is the color for snagging attention – and if we’re talking dresses, most likely a few come-hither stares. In Chinese culture, red is the color of prosperity and good luck. Even brides wear red, not white, by tradition on their wedding day! On Chinese New Year, we wear red underwear and on our birthdays, new red clothes. Needless to say, I love the color red! So I’m thrilled that this season, there are so many amazing red bags to choose from.

Tory Burch’s roomy satchel ($625) is an everyday carryall for work and beyond, in a color that is certain to spice up your life. Forget Dorothy’s ruby slippers! Keep Marni’s sequined scarlet pouch ($195) in your smart day bag, to use as a very snazzy cosmetic case or whip out in the evening to use as a clutch. Both high on mega-red shine, Phillip Lim’s envelope mini-shoulder bag ($595) and Valentino’s slick leather toteicon ($1,995) are the handbag equivalents to a swipe of red lipstick on the mouth. Unique details make them even more uncommon. Rich in color, low on price: Rebecca Minkofficon ($395) delivers. Loads of delicate studs tone down the color for a rather muted effect. Or invest in Fendi’s ladylike sassicon ($2,130) – luggage-inspired details sharpen up embossed crimson leather, resulting in delicious texture.

Bring a flash of powerful color to your daily ensembles – and even better, a dose of good fortune into your wardrobe.
