Botkier Resort 2012 Collection: Defying Gravitas
By Bag Snob Tina on June 28, 2011 12:00 pm Tina Craig

Botkier does accessible luxury for the energetic girl who shows no sign of slowing down – and neither does the label. Their latest resort collection doesn’t show us anything earth-shattering, but it is a spirited showing with a youthful approach. There is a substantial selection of everyday neutrals, but it’s the super-vivid brights that caught my eye, literally and figuratively. With enough shades to make a box of Crayolas jealous, practical styles come in peppy colors that will make the drabbest garment in your closet go, “boom!”

Color-block much? The “Eden” satchel ($595) is an extravaganza of hot pink, red, and blue. Somehow, thanks to rigid lines and a stilted design that’s very schoolgirl-chic, the craziness of the color combination works. Sometimes a color trifecta might be a bit too overwhelming as far as ensemble-coordinating goes; in that case, the “Leela” clutch ($345), hot pink lambskin with a strip of blue courtesy of the skinny shoulder strap, does a similar job of hue injection. Or go for a single pop – the “Misha” clutch ($345), hot red trimmed in cool gunmetal.

The “Carlyle” shoulder bag, in lizard-effect cowhide ($345-$395), might look muted in comparison, but look closely – the graduated shade of periwinkle-gray is most unusual (good thing, since this is a silhouette we’ve seen a zillion times). But the winner of the bunch is perhaps the spunkiest – the “Brinks” crossbody bag ($225), a standout in lime lambskin, combines Botkier’s signature unfussy hardware and insanely frugal price with a perky style that’s packed with personality for the young at heart.

I love the Misha clutch! I definitively like the Brinks, too, but have no idea what I would wear with a lime colored bag.

Why complain about the photoshop job??? Is that really the point?? The writing is the best, the suggestions are great……picky, picky, picky. I think you’re doing a terrific job, Tina. Ignore the curmudgeons.
