The black python tote: timeless, flattering, and endlessly wearable, it is the LBD of bags.
At an even $5K, Alaïa’s rendition is as luxe as it gets (Hermès is too snobby to make python products; they think python is an inferior skin, preferring lizards and crocs when it comes to their reptiles). Shinier than a fresh coat of Yves Saint Laurent limited edition black lip gloss, their concisely designed tote screams sophistication. Swoon-worthy lacquered skin and classy top handles give it an elegant feel; a wide, open shape keeps it from feeling too chichi. Needless to say, it’s the go-to tote for the ultimate Luxe Snob.
Fortunately for the (semi) Frugal Snob, Carlos Falchi has created a similar version for a fraction of the price. His roomy black python tote is a simply beautiful bag, and it serves the same functional yet fashionable purpose. Whether you can’t resist going all-out with Alaïa or opt for prudence with Falchi’s version, the big black python tote is a must-have for snobs of all shapes, sizes, styles, and ages.

you can definitely see the diff in quality even in the picture, but the handle on the alais is not great..needed a little more length so can sling over your shoulder….for $5000 the design should be btr even if the bag looks great…
I like the Alaia, but I agree with Ping, the strap needs to be longer. Because of the size of a tote and how much you put in it, carrying it on your shoulder becomes a necessity.
On the other hand, I don’t find the straps on the Falchi to be substantial enough.
