Sasha’s New Obsession: Celine Luggage Tote

Guest Blog by Sasha Charnin Morrison, Fashion Director of Us Magazine and Author of “Secrets of Stylists”

There are very few designers that make me completely insane in the membrane. Tina had to talk me down off the Barneys roof when I became semi fashion suicidal over a Givenchy studded satchel. I had just celebrated a recent acquisition of a black Happy Lanvin Bag from my pal, Richard Erani’s store Chuckies on 3rd Avenue In Manhattan (if you don’t know Richard, you aren’t experienced. He sells Lanvin, Stella, Miu Miu, YSL, Prada, Tory Burch…etc and buys it differently so you will see exclusive colors of a YSL Tribute there and a different Miu Miu color there. Madison Avenue (347) 453-0094, 3rd Avenue (212-593-9898) and King’s Highway Brooklyn-yes!- (718) 376-1003.) But because I am a bag and designer label WHORE this simply wasn’t enough. My BFF Caryn kept talking over and over about the Celine Boston bag. And I had my eye on that when I had been out shooting in LA for Us Weekly as a few people on the crew had the bag.

It wasn’t till the other night when we went to Bergdorf Goodman In NY and we saw the Orange Boston that I really started to lose my shit. It was one of those moments when you start to calculate in your mind and choose which credit card to split the cost on so the blow isn’t too extreme. It didn’t help that the store made me manic when the sales girl said to me the magic words ” “there are only two left in this color.” AND THAT WAS IT. My friend Caryn on the other hand wanted the same bag-but in brown or tan. She called around the country and finally got someone on the phone at Celine in Florida. Actually Tina thanks for posting the number on the site because that’s who Caryn called. Anywhoo-the Leopard version is BEYOND sick and would never kick that out of bed but this Orange, Hermes like, grainy leather made my eyes pop out of the sockets.

I recently got the newer version of this Celine bag (has the snap clasp front pocket instead of the zipper)in navy and I couldn’t be happier. The leather is absolutely rich and simply luscious, the contrasting suede interior (yellow)is amazing. This is the best handbag purchase I have made in a really long time. LOVE!!!

This was quite possibly one of the most poorly written blog posts I’ve ever read on this site. Where do I begin?

“There are very few designers that make me completely insane in the membrane.”

Nice. Way to start the blog post with a reference to Cypress Hill, circa 1993.

“if you don’t know Richard, you aren’t experienced.”

See, there’s fun/cool snob, and then there’s just flat out stuck up snob. The sentence above suggests the latter. I read this blog to see what new bags are out there, not to be served with a giant platter of heaping condescension.

“I am a bag and designer label WHORE.”

Um, I’m pretty sure it’s possible to appreciate high quality/luxury goods without having to proclaim to the world that you’re a label whore. I would hope most of the people who read this site prefer to be a bit more discreet about their standards.

“It wasn’t till the other night when we went to Bergdorf Goodman In NY and we saw the Orange Boston that I really started to lose my shit.”

You know what you should lose instead? Your sh*tty writing.

“Anywhoo-the Leopard version is BEYOND sick.”

This sentence would be tolerable…if I were 15 again.

Next time put some thought into writing like a normal, educated adult. And for the love of god, proofread the damn thing. Don’t you think a beautiful bag like the Celine Boston deserves something better than spastic ramblings filled with piss-poor grammar?

Connie-you are not alone. I was appalled reading this junk. It sounded so juvenile/Valley Girl, I don’t even know how to describe it. Tina/Kelly-sorry, but Sasha needs to clean up her act or leave the building. IMHO

Agreed on the poor writing, but what about that horrible picture? Sitting on the floor, bedecked in plastic wrap, my first thought was that this post was about cheap knock-offs in back alley stores. If your words can’t make us excited, your pictures should at the very least, make us drool a bit.

I thought this post was very whimsical and fun! Your crazy excited tone reminds me of my mother when she stumbles upon a show stopper like the Boston. Loved it, got it, and can’t wait for more :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you called the Celine Calf Luggage a Boston.

I too am an avid fan of what Phoebe Philo has done with Celine. But am also a Valextra fan…that has the Boston bag. No matter I own several of both..the Boston Valextra, and the calf luggage Celine. I am in love with the pony leopard also. You have made a smart and savvy investment. Forget the haters who just feel better when they put someone on BLast!!

Connie is right. Poorly written, juvenile, and obnoxious. I realize the site is called ‘Bag Snob,’ and do not expect finely worded essays, but still. Fun and lighthearted riffs on cool bags are one thing…this Perez Hilton-y blathering is another.

The author, whoever she is, sounds like she is trying too hard to sound hip and fresh. The ‘hey-look-at-me-aren’t-I-trendy’ patter and slang is really just tiresome and lame. Ooh, she said “lose my shit.”! She said “BFF!” She said “BEYOND sick!” How in your face! How edgy!

    Sasha? Seriously honey…grow up.

Would I have appreciated better pics of this beauty, yes! But as for the write-up, this is a “blog” after all and I don’t expect to read literary masterpieces… We need to be a little light hearted here. Live is too short, so let’s pick our battles carefully..

Good. I thought that I was the only one that didn’t like the write up. Sounded more like Teen Vogue than Bag Snob. The part that really rubbed me the wrong was the line about knowing Richard. Now, I REALLY don’t want to know him. And, a better picture was in order.

Back to the bag. I am not a fan of the Celine bag, but I do love the color. And, who wraps leather in plastic. Big no, no.

All I can say is I am flying over the United States at this moment and can’t stop laughing. I am so damn thankful to all for even taking a second out of your lives to read my insane rant over an orange bag wrapped in plastic.

My grammer does suck. Is that worth getting all of your knickers in a twist? What can I say? I’m just delighted that my post-appalling and horrendous-made all of you feel something. I really just wanted to be highly entertaining. And I believe I achieved that.

And as for Richard, he’s a wonderful man who runs an amazingly chic boutique in Manhattan. If I’m angry about anything it’s the reaction to him and your smart ass, bitterness there. We’re all trying to just help each other out. Jeez.

hi! it’s really orange. Hermes orange. They sold out at BG but was in LA yesterday and they have the style with the lock at Barneys in Beverly Hills. Just as great. Price is bit higher but not much. I get so many compliments, it’s insane.

The BG ladies told me the same bag will be arriving on re-order

in navy blue which will be very chic and also a red. I don’t know what type of red but will likely be as chic and gorgeous as the orange.

Other best parts of this bag-I love how it opens. You can see everything and find everything. no shoulder strap but I think that would ruin it so if you need wrists and hands free, it’s a bit of a problem.

In all due respect, yes i found the reference to Richard rather rude, but I am pretty sure it was written in line with a *3 snaps in a Z* kinda attitude. And i can totally relate to her being deranged and going crazy over a bag. But hey! at least this bag is in line with the tastes of bagsnob. Sublte, luxurious, chic. Snobby. Can’t say the same for Jim and the intern or whatever, featuring those hideous tassled bags, the kind u see on Mexican pullcarts for 5 bucks.

    cheers.

Sasha, loved your post… BTW, I was lucky enough to get the leopard version and I know how you described it as “beyond sick” – does that mean I should keep it? I usually steer towards the “classics” when it comes to handbags, but this one just spoke to me. Would love the opinion of someone with your fashion background on whether this bag (leopard version) will stand the test of time? Tks!

    thank you.

I am beyond jealous that you got the leopard. Completely gone.:( I am very sad about that. I think it’s forever. I mean, does Ann Bancroft in a leopard or ocelot coat as Mrs. Robinson ever look dated or wrong? Nope. So…enjoy or call me if you’re contemplating a return. LOL!

I am not a practical bag person. I love my bag to be a friggin showpiece. I get stuck in subway car door sometimes because that damn Chanel calabasas doesnt clear and you know, I can’t let THAT go. Bigger, more attention getting-but chic always-the better. I have recently purchased a grown up Happy bag from Lanvin in black and a very special Simone Camille ethnic patterned and embellished bag for my hippie days. BUT this Celine…

I just needed something un-me that could go with black ballerina’s and a trench coat. I also was thrown into quite a tizzy when Eddie from BG told me there were only two left in orange. I mean, that’s usually all they need to say. With no re-order. So…it had to be had. Navy and Red…eh. A lot of people had the black. Not for me.

I love that orange. I use that direction of Hermes orange for almost everything in my life. Tory Burch also has a great Benjamin Moore orange she uses for her stores and it makes me crazy.

    You did good.

It wasn’t meant to be rude and I’m sorry you read it that way. Honestly.

Richard: He’s an educator. You can tell him what you’re looking for and he can steer you in the right way. And with technology and computers and all that jazz-you actually don’t have to be in NYC. Make the connection, ask for cellphone pictures to be sent to you so you can see the stock. Tell him what you like and that’s a great way to keep the communication open.

Tina and I do that with Eddie all the time at Bergdorf’s. She’s not living here either.
