Trend Alert: Paper Baggin’ It

The latest craze in handbags? No, it’s not crocodile or ostrich, it’s…. paper bags! While Bottega Veneta used actual paper for its woven clutch, Proenza Schouler’s version is merely inspired by paper bags.  We were fascinated with Bottega’s innovative use of paper in its bags when we previewed them in Milan last spring.  I mean, it’s one thing to say “let’s use paper to make a bag!” and another altogether to actually make it, and do it so beautifully.  The clutch is also woven in python skin and made with a gorgeous beetle clasp that turns to unlock.  BOTTEGA VENETA Intrecciato Papier and Snakeskin Clutch here for $2,250 (I’m gasping at the price of paper, too but at least it’s half snakeskin?!)

We reviewed the “Paper Effect” leather bag from Proenza back in July but if you missed out back then it’s now available at Proenza Schouler.com

I’m pretty sure the BV Papier is Mylar, and not your typical paper.
