Phillip Lim’s accessories have always been among editors’ favorites that enjoy an equally positive reaction from consumers. But in a bid to ramp up its handbag business and gain a larger share of the multi-billion dollar accessory business, Phillip’s laid the groundwork for some key handbag shapes starting with spring. The double-handle tote bag is dubbed the “KC” and features a detachable strap, side zips that expand the unlined bag significantly, a suede snap closure to keep the handles aligned and an inside coin purse that’s detachable. Available in rose and black, the totes are great for everyday work use but also at home on roadtrips and travelling abroad. For the more adventurous type, there’s also a version in a funkadelic shaggy suede. A cousin of the “KC” is the “Bowlinger,” which is essentially a–you guessed it–bowling bag with mini exterior pocket available in turtle and rose colors.

I like the second one (double tote bag) though it is a bit of a cross between the Tod’s G Bag and Celine Luggage (a beautiful marriage at that!)

At 10″W x 8 1/2″H x 5″D, the KC Satchel is too small to be a all purpose work bag for any business woman (a standard manilla folder is 11.5×9.5), and too big to be a carried as an everyday purse because you’ll still have to carry another bag or carry documents in your hands.

While it’s a beautiful bag, and I almost bought it until I caught the dimensions, it’s just another example of a male designer who doesn’t understand the everyday woman.
