Marc by Marc Jacobs Saddlery Sophie Convertible Satchel

It’s not as if Marc by Marc Jacobs is not worth mentioning. It’s just that its bags lack imagination and always feel like an afterthought.  Take this saddlery bag for example, it’s not bad for the price, is in sync with the current trend of military messenger styles (especially the ever so popular PS1 bag and Mulberry Alexa) but it just doesn’t do it for me.  Something is missing and I can’t quite put my finger on it (though the giant plate on the front flap we could do without).  The only thing I can come up with is mediocrity; which, in my book, is worse than being bad.  At least when you totally suck you’re evoking emotion in me, this bag is neither here nor there.  We’ll just call it blah and leave it at that.  What do you think?

First, the color doesn’t photograph too well. Secondly, I’m not a fan of the luggage strap on such a small purse.

It is pretty mediocre… but at $478 dollars I think that bag will do well in sales.

I think this is a marketing driven design, well, not a design, just a bag. A balance of trendy elements and price. This bag probably worth $150 without Marc’s tag.

I love the bag. Not fan of the color. A blue red would be really pretty.

It’s amazing that everyone is in love with the PSI (which I hate), but don’t like this one. I don’t get it because this is more functional.

I fell in love with this bad this weekend right when it hit the shelves (I was at the Marc store). I love it and they have it in the caramel colour, which makes it look way more luxurious and sophisticated than the black. I vowed I would buy this bad and am pretty disappointed in your review.

This is similar to the PS1 in my opinion. More mainstream in its design, but the other colors are more luxurious in appearance. Not all women like flashy bags – some us prefer the more understated – or “boring” – styles.

I really pity Marc jacobs. When he does a loud bag, he got slammed for it and when he designs an understated bag like this one, he’s still critisized, yet he is raking in the dough(food for thought isn’t it?) For me I think this bag is really functional and with the price point I think it is really nice for those who wants a functional bag.

I don’t love this one, but there are plenty of his bags that I’d wear in a heartbeat. And I actually don’t mind the gold plate — better than the branding that some lines use.

I actually like it, but I tend to go for more straightforward bags. I think this would be a great bag for travel with the detachable strap (that looks long enough to wear crossbody). I also like that the lining isn’t the usual logo mess.

HOw is this a product of an afterthought? I think the bag is gorgeous and the luggage inspired strap gives it a more rugged look. It’s perfect for urban style.

I haven’t seen this in person as yet, only online and in adverts. It looks so charming in the print ad, like a book bag used by European kids. It follows the 80′s preppy style which is getting so big. Rather than buying several prep pcs of clothing I would update w/this bag, any color would work. A little overpriced I would say, though.

I really think that whoever blogged this bag is riduculous. I absolutely adore marc jacobs & this bag. It is trendy, functional & perfect for fall. You certainly do not have the best picture of this bag @ all. Perhaps if you saw it up close & for real you’d have a different opinion. Therefore in order to truly show case FASHION you should have a flattering picture, not some piece of shit you grabbed of google.

next time do a better job ;)

I like it, especially with that contrasting striped detachable handle. This looks really nice, classic, hints of 70s, the military quality you mentioned.

Loved the look of this, ordered it and disliked it the minute I held it. Just was not comfortable whichever way I held/carried it.
