Love 'em or hate 'em, there's something quintessentially charming about a Marni bag. It's got this magnetic appeal to it that somehow beckons you when you happen upon it. The fall Marni runway bags seem to represent this unique microcosm of the ideal "Pleasantville"-meets-Katharine Hepburn life--one, as the clothes for fall are seemingly dictating, we'll all be adopting in a few short months. Marni bags, for me, have never been "stop the presses" works of art comparable to some other brands that shall remain nameless. Nevertheless, I did take a liking to the initial few perforated pieces that came strolling out. The perforations seem to give an otherwise granny shaped bag a youthful appeal, no? The satchel shape is also something I've already seen plenty of, but Marni translates it using whimsical prints to give it a newfound life. And last but not least, the structured, boxy handbags with their cool fabric offerings may a smooth transition from day into night; the only missing on these is a chic scarf tied in some funky manner.

These bags are definitely pretty and have a retro feel. However, even the larger ones can't be worn on a daily basis. The profile is so skinny that a small wallet probably would make the bag bulge. Then, that would destroy the silhouette.
For me, a bag has to be different yet still functional.

Upstairs in my cupbard wrapped in a soft bag I have a beautiful black squre bag. This was given to me by my mother who had it given to her by my grandmother. This bag probably is dated 1940. It is elegant slim and just perfect for a tea, evening and luch. It will finish of an outfit by Victoria Beckham or Roland Mouret dress, elegant and simple How lovely to see a slightly retro edge added to this bag. The colours are discreet and do not shout back or steal any attention away from your outfit it will just enhance it. You will find it hard to fault this timeless accessary.

  • I love the perforated leather and the Kiss lock frames. All these bags look so retro yet very modern. Great Post

  • I think one can achieve this look with a much less expensive and better looking) kate spade bag. :)
