Fendi Baguette Needlepoint Kit
By Bag Snob Kelly on March 26, 2010 12:00 pm Kelly Cook

Every summer on my vacation, I do a craft project, one year I did a needlepoint and this year I might rise to the occasion again, this time on a Fendi Baguette. But then again, I am not very good and I never actually finished the project (too much white sky, boring!), so I’m not sure I would trust myself to a $995 needlepoint project. It’s interesting that Fendi thinks their client would be the needlepoint type, all my friends made fun of me since I am a good 3-4 decades too young. They were too young with the Color Me Mine Baguette and again, they missed the mark with the needlepoint. Has the Baguette been around that long? Its debut was in 1997 so someone who coveted this bag back then might very well have moved in to Leisure World by now. Entire bag is workable, comes with 3 design templates. At Neiman Marcus for $995.

The only bit of wisdom I glean from this project is that everyone should try to needlepoint. I LOVE it, and with experience and imagination you can create all kinds of beautiful heirlooms.

I hope they only made, like, 12, ’cause I’m forecasting that this one won’t exactly be flyin’ off the shelves.

It is interesting, however, that they found such an effective way to remind me of all I lack: excessive money to throw around, free time, patience, a knack for handiwork…

An idea: maybe fendi can have celebrities do the needlework then auction the craft projects for charity. This would be a much better use of the baguette kit.

Who doesn’t love a great soft leather bag, but I too am curious about Fendi’s new needlepoint bag. Way too expensive at least $800 of the price is for the Fendi buckle! Never mind that it doesn’t look like it lays flat so you could do it properly. Want a unique needlepoint purse – try http://tinyurl.com/yh8bbhq

Love the idea but not the price tag!

I work in a needlepoint shop & just had a woman come in who had purchased this kit. She was concerned because she had a specific design concept for the bag and didn’t think fendi had provided her with enough yarn. I had to agree. There didn’t appear to be enough yarn provided to complete any of the “design cards” included. Also, your previous comment that there is no way to open the bag out to stitch it flat is correct… this will be an incredibly difficult bag for her to stitch in purely practical terms. She also has no way to stitch the canvas behind the buckle, so that will have to remain plain!
It is obvious to me that fendi totally fell down on the job and, if they did hire a needlework consultant, they didn’t listen to him or her!
