Yves Saint Laurent Chyc Bag

YSLBag.jpg

This bag registers so high on the style meter, it is redefining the word “chic”–literally. While on my myriad of Pre-Fall 2010 appointments (translation: the clothes that come out in July and August), I stopped in my tracks at YSL, whose accessories bowled me over. The divine chunky wedges aside, I was drawn to this vintage-inspired handbag. Stefano Pilati went military for pre-fall this year and this bag is the perfect complement to epaulettes, wide leg pants and belted jackets. Doesn’t this bag look like something your mom carried when she was young? Who else is having a “Brady Bunch” moment? I love the saddle bag-esque shape of this bag and the antiquated hardware. Inside are roomy compartments that expand to accommodate your belongings. The “Y” insignia closure is also incorporated in a way that it’s not garish whatsoever. While this bag also comes in suede, I love it in this leather version; it’s rigid, durable and completely Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.

Price on request, available at YSL stores in mid-summer, www.ysl.com.

  1. Ooooohhhh… It’s divine! Do you know if it will be coming in any other colors?

  2. It’s stunning! Reminds me so much of the Hermes Constance bag, which is similar in shape, with a simple, iconic “H” as a clasp. Can’t wait to see this one in person! Perfection.

    So boring!

  4. Not impressed to be honest.

  5. I love it!

  6. I like it. But it does resemble vintage Coach to me.

Very nice! I’d also really love to know what colors it will be coming in.

  9. LUST! I’ve been wanting a shoulder bag like this for MONTHS! I’ve exhausted vintage shops because I couldn’t find anything new that came close to what I’ve been looking for. This is quite possibly the perfect pocketbook.

It looks no different than a vintage bag that you would pick up from a thrift shop. It’s just okay. If I saw it in stores, I wouldn’t give it a second look.

  14. it looks like the hermes one but with a y logo, not exactly creative!

Definitely looks like the Hermes Constance. I have the Hermes in this color ostrich.

  16. I can hardly understand the comments that this bag resembles Hermes Constance bag, simply for the reason this bag shape is basic, elegant and chic and definitely Hermes did not invent it! Many designs could be related to Hermes or whatever other brand, as it is difficult to “invent” some bag that would be fully innovative and would not have any element of any other bag. Even, in my humble opinion, this bag has nothing to do with Constance, except the outer shape which is obviously difficult to avoid – almost all the bags are rectangular, either soft or rigid…therefore fishing for resemblance with other brands can be very tricky. I like this bag very much, it is very chic and fancy on its own and no other bag comes in my mind when watching it.

Lily makes an excellent point: it’s pretty hard to make a bag that isn’t basically in the shape of a . . . bag. But the bigger picture here is that if we’re too strict about it, people won’t have the chance to post comments saying, “It looks exactly like the $3500 X bag, which I happen to have in three colors.” Which would be a shame.
