The Ram is back! I was delighted to see the updated version of Derek Lam's iconic ram hardware on belts and bags in his Fall 2010 collection. I personally love the new hardware; it's subtle, polished and sophisticated-- an extension of Derek's own evolution as a designer. On the Nyla Birch Powder Calf hobo (above left), it is strategically placed on the pocket flap and adorns the sleek hobo beautifully.  Derek emailed me after the show and expressed the inspiration for bringing back the ram hardware: "The Fall '10 rams head detail is a new generation version of what I did for my very first bag collection. Everybody kept asking me to bring it back, and so with some updated tweaks, it is back. But the original rams head bags from Fall 2006 remain unique and will not be reproduced ever again. This way, I wanted those who have the original bags, my early supporters, will always know they have something special."

Thoughtful and earnest, this is what I love about him!  But if hobos with hardware are not your thing, Derek also has a new softly structured tote called the Lela (above right) available in pebbled leather, tweed print hair calf (amazing and innovative!) and two toned powder calf.  Its unfussy lines and elegant style will take you from work to play, every day.  I know it will appeal to our Man Snobs as well!  Of course no Derek Lam bag collection is complete without his signature urban clutches-- Derek is known as much for his effortless big bags as his edgy clutches that my friends and I scoop up every season. For Fall, we will be clutching the black powder calf Elvie clutch (below left) and feel like rock stars everytime we use it.  Call Wayne at 212-966-1616 to put your name on the list asap.

You can also shop Derek Lam at his new online shop-- "I have always been intrigued by technological innovation in its many forms," Derek tells us. "Its highly dynamic nature is constantly evolving in new ways that enrich our lives, just as fashion should. On-line shopping has become a part of my daily life. It will never completely replace shopping in-store but extend the experience of shopping to a space without physical boundaries."  So what are you waiting for? Go shop Derek Lam online here!

The Lela tote (below) is a must have!  Available in different leathers and textures; there is something for everyone.  Plus it fits a laptop (I played with it backstage) and even a change of clothes or shoes if necessary (hey a girl has to have options throughout the day, especially over Fashion Week!).

I took this photo backstage, the iPhone camera is not the best but I wanted to show you the fringe detail on the Nyla hobo that the runway photos did not capture.
